My first day in Field Study 2: Participation and Teaching Assistantship began with an
orientation at the school. Before being assigned to our cooperating teachers, the principal
briefed us on our responsibilities as teacher aides. This was followed by the exciting part –
choosing our cooperating teachers. I selected Ms. Mary Jean Dizon, a Grade 12 senior high
school teacher. I must admit, I was overwhelmed of some uncertainties.
I had never observed a senior high school class, and I wasn't sure what to expect from
the students or the classroom environment. The thought of working with older students, who
are arguably more independent and have different learning styles compared to younger ones.
Would they be receptive to me? Would I be able to connect with them effectively? These
questions keep asking me in my mind. Despite these initial doubts, I was excited to learn
from Ms. Dizon, a seasoned educator, and to experience firsthand the dynamics of a senior
high school classroom. The opportunity to observe and assist in a new setting felt both
challenging and incredibly rewarding.
The orientation also included a discussion about our Field Study 1 observations,
where we shared both positive and negative experiences. This reflective exercise was helpful
in identifying areas for improvement and setting realistic expectations for my Field Study 2
journey. My overall impression of the day was positive. While apprehension remains, my
eagerness to learn and grow under Ms. Dizon's guidance outweighs my concerns. I am
hopeful that this experience will significantly enhance my teaching skills and provide me
with invaluable insights into the realities of teaching senior high school students. I believe
Ms. Dizon's expertise will be instrumental in my development as a future educator.
REFLECTION PAPER
My second day of Field Study 2 was spent assisting Ms. Dizon in her Grade 11 and 12
classes. Stepping into those classrooms, I have to admit, I felt a wave of nervousness and
being worried. Unlike my Field Study 1 experiences, I hadn't previously observed the senior
high school environment, and the unfamiliar setting was a little daunting. However, I took a
deep breath and introduced myself to the students with as much confidence as I could. From
that moment, I was determined to learn as much as possible and to build positive
relationships with the students.
My primary task for the day was to double-check the students' grades before they
were submitted to the principal. This was a crucial step to prevent any potential
misunderstandings or errors. The responsibility felt significant, and I approached it with
meticulous care, ensuring accuracy in every calculation. While the task was primarily
administrative, it gave me a valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes work involved in
teaching. The day was a “roller-coaster” of activity. I observed Ms. Dizon's teaching
methods, her interactions with students, and the overall classroom dynamics. I learned a lot
about classroom management in a senior high setting, and I saw firsthand the different
teaching strategies employed to engage older students. I also had the chance to interact with
the students informally, getting to know their personalities and learning about their interests.

This second day of my Field Study 2 provided me with a vastly different experience
than my first. The transition from the junior high environment to the senior high setting was
significant, and my initial nervousness was a witness to that. However, overcoming that
initial apprehension was a learning experience in itself. It taught me the importance of self-
confidence and the ability to adapt to new and challenging situations. The task of verifying
student grades was unexpectedly insightful. While seemingly straightforward, it highlighted
the importance of accuracy and attention to detail in education. A small error could have
significant consequences, emphasizing the responsibility teachers and teacher assistants bear
in ensuring the integrity of student records.
Observing Ms. Dizon's teaching style and interacting with the students allowed me to
gain valuable experience in classroom management and student engagement strategies
specific to senior high school. I noticed the need for a different approach compared to junior
high students. They are more independent and require a different level of engagement and
interaction. This experience has strengthened my resolve to become a better educator. It has
shown me the importance of preparation, attention to detail, and the ability to build rapport
with students of all ages. I am grateful for the opportunity to have learned from Ms. Dizon
and the students, and I look forward to future field study experiences. I am eager to continue

Today, I had the privilege of assisting Ma’am Dizon in preparing her instructional
materials for her Trends, Networks and Critical Thinking in 21 st Century subject. My first
task was to ensure that the materials were well-organized and ready for student use. I
carefully reviewed the content to ensure its clarity and relevance. After preparing the
materials, Ma’am Dizon instructed me to distribute and post them in 12-Helium. I facilitated
the activity by guiding the students on how to approach the task. Once they submitted their
answers, I was tasked with checking their outputs. While checking, I observed that most of
the students performed well and received good scores, showcasing their understanding of the
lesson. However, a few left their answers blank, which likely contributed to their lower
scores. I believe this may stem from either a lack of confidence or time management issues
during the activity. Overall, the experience allowed me to better understand the importance of
properly preparing instructional materials and engaging with students to ensure they
comprehend the lesson objectives.

Grade 12 students. Unlike traditional paper-and-pen tests, this quiz was designed as a group
activity where students had to raise tag boards with their answers according to my
cooperating teacher. The quiz was interactive, requiring me to read out the questions aloud
while monitoring the students’ responses and evaluating their performance as a group. One of
the challenges I faced was managing the activity efficiently since this form of assessment
requires active engagement from both the students and the teacher. Coordinating the students
to ensure fairness in raising the answers and recording their points based on group
performance was no easy task. I needed to remain attentive and organized to ensure a smooth
flow of the activity.
Despite the challenge, this experience became a great opportunity for me to develop

effort, my partner and I ensured that we fairly distributed our tasks to create a smooth and

responsibilities efficiently. We began by finalizing our lesson plan, ensuring that it aligned
with the learning objectives and standards required. Afterward, we sought the guidance of our
cooperating teacher to review and check the plan. The feedback provided by our mentor gave
us valuable insights on how we can improve the delivery and organization of our
demonstration.
In preparation for the actual demonstration, we informed our chosen section—Grade
10 Cashew—that they would be part of this activity. By letting the students know in advance,
we were able to establish a sense of connection with them, which we believe will help us
manage the classroom more effectively during the demonstration. We also devoted time to
double-checking all instructional materials, including our PowerPoint presentation, to ensure
their accuracy, relevance, and visual appeal. Preparing these tools carefully is essential, as
