Pros of Having a Smartphone:

By Catarina Escobedo
*this is not an attack just my opinion and I just wanted to do this:)

Thesis: Teens should have a phone because, without it, they can feel excluded, they
need it for school as well as to help stay organized and up to date, and it allows
parents to monitor and track their kids.

In today’s digital age, the debate over whether teenagers should have access to
smartphones is increasingly important. Advocates for teen smartphone use argue
that phones are essential for social inclusion, academic organization, and parental
oversight. Given the pressures of modern teenage life, it is clear that having a
phone offers significant benefits that justify their use among Teens.

First and foremost, smartphones play a crucial role in helping teens feel connected
with their peers. Social interactions among teenagers often take place through
messaging apps and social media platforms, making it easy to maintain friendships
and be part of the group. Without a phone, teens can feel isolated and out of the
loop, particularly when events are coordinated or shared online. The fear of missing
out (FOMO) can lead to anxiety and feelings of exclusion, which underscores the
need for smartphones in fostering a sense of belonging during these important
years.

Moreover, smartphones serve as powerful organizational tools for students. With

numerous apps dedicated to note-taking, task management, and calendar
scheduling, teens can effectively keep track of their homework, extracurricular
activities, and deadlines. This organizational capability is crucial for academic
success, as it helps students manage their time effectively and remain on top of
their responsibilities. Additionally, access to educational resources and online
research through smartphones can enhance learning opportunities beyond the
classroom, further supporting their studies.
Finally, smartphones provide parents with the ability to monitor and track their
children’s whereabouts and activities. Many apps are designed to give parents
peace of mind, allowing them to ensure their teens are safe and staying out of
trouble. This oversight not only helps protect teenagers but also fosters open
communication about responsible phone use and the value of trust between
parents and their children.

In conclusion, granting teenagers access to smartphones is essential in today’s

world. Phones help combat feelings of exclusion, promote organization and
academic success, and enable parents to stay informed about their childs safety.
Balancing the advantages of smartphone use with appropriate restrictions can help
teens to navigate both their social and academic lives effectively, preparing them
for responsible adulthood.
