I. Introduction
Holidays are a very important part of everyone's life, whether they are students or working
professionals. Everyone deserves to rest in order to rejuvenate and maintain their health;
vacations are also a precious time we set aside to temporarily step away from the hustle and
bustle of everyday life. It could be lively festival days, adventurous trips exploring the country,
or simply a time to relax at home. Holidays not only help us relax and recharge our energy but
also provide an opportunity to experience new things, broaden our horizons, and connect with
family and friends.
There are many different holidays throughout the year, ranging from major national
holidays that are rich in cultural identity, such as Vietnam's National Day on September 2nd,
International Labor Day on May 1st, or the Hung Kings' Festival on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar
month, to religious holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving in Christianity, Buddha's Birthday in
Buddhism, or Ramadan in Islam. In addition, you can also arrange vacations for yourself to
escape the pressures of work.
The holiday is a time when you can engage in various activities for yourself, such as
traveling, spending time healing at home, participating in a hands-on craft class like knitting,
pottery, or visiting relatives and friends in your hometown. One of the most popular activities
during the holiday season is traveling. You can travel domestically to various countries around
the world, from villages in the highlands to islands offshore. By traveling, you can explore
famous landmarks, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the unique culture of different regions
and ethnic groups. Travel is also an opportunity to connect and make friends with people from
all over the world.
Holidays are an essential part of everyone's life. It helps us balance work and life,
maintaining mental and physical health. So, take advantage of the holidays to relax, have fun,
and explore new things.

II. Body
1. Benefits
1.1 Stress Reduction
Travel brings many benefits, making it an essential activity for everyone. Firstly, it
significantly reduces stress by helping you recharge and relax. This downtime is crucial for
mental health as it helps reduce anxiety and promotes relaxation. Additionally, exposure to new
environments and cultures can greatly improve mental health, stimulate creativity, and encourage
personal growth by pushing you out of your comfort zone and encouraging you to experience
new things. As an illustration, after a stressful week at work, you can spend the weekend traveling
to Sapa. I think the fresh air and majestic scenery of the Northwest mountains will help you relax
and forget all your worries. Travel also broadens your horizons, helping you see the world from
different perspectives and fostering empathy and understanding towards others. Moreover, the
social relationships formed while traveling are invaluable. Meeting new people and making
friends with those from diverse cultures enriches your life and creates unforgettable memories.
Holidays provide us with the chance to try new things. These encounters can be a priceless
way for us to learn and develop. Visiting new places exposes people to other cultures, traditions,
and lifestyles. It broadens their understanding of the world and its diverse communities while
also encouraging greater tolerance and understanding among individuals. Learning about diverse
cultures can also be an enriching and instructive experience because it provides insight into the
history and customs of various countries.
Stepping out of our comfort zone and encountering new environments can help boost
creativity. Novel encounters can stimulate creative thinking and new ideas. When you learn
something new, you’re essentially giving your brain a workout, leading to improved problem-
solving skills and creative thinking. After your holiday, you might feel more creative in both your
6
personal and professional life. When we take a break and allow our thoughts to relax and
recharge, we return to work with increased concentration and productivity.
Holidays can lighten the atmosphere and offer a chance to meet new people who are
willing to strike up a conversation or engage in some holiday banter. You have the time to unwind
and enjoy discussion, frequently with like-minded individuals who are experiencing the same
experience, whether it's at the beach bar, in the pool, on a day excursion, or during an enjoyable
activity. It should come as no surprise that the most profound friendships and relationships are
frequently formed when on holidays.
All in all, spending quality time with family and friends might occasionally be neglected
in the rush of daily life. Holidays are the ideal way to spend quality time with loved ones, whether
it's on a family adventure or a romantic holiday.
7
exhilarating and adventurous, stimulating your senses and extending your perspective. So, why
settle for the mundane when amazing occurrences await? Your next holiday could be the secret
to living a more exciting life full of stories worth telling!
Tourism growth is another vital aspect of holiday economics. Destinations frequently see
a rush of visitors eager to experience local culture and attractions, which can generate significant
revenue for hotels, restaurants, and attractions. This tourist surge accelerates infrastructure
development as towns invest in better facilities and services to welcome visitors. Public holidays
can also provide an opportunity for businesses to increase sales through discounts and
promotional activities, attracting more customers and increasing revenue. Seasonal roles become
available as businesses expand their operations to accommodate increased demand. This increase
in job opportunities not only helps people make money, but it also leads to reducing
unemployment rates in communities.
In the end, the economic benefits of holidays go far beyond personal enjoyment; they
promote community growth and stability, opening the way for future innovations that can
improve our overall quality of life. Embracing vacations is more than just a getaway; it is an
investment in the health of our economy.
8
holidays play a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage by keeping traditions alive, passing
down customs from generation to generation, and helping to maintain cultural identity. Through
rituals, ceremonies, and celebrations, people can connect with their ancestors, learn about their
history, and appreciate the richness of their cultural heritage. Additionally, holidays celebrate the
diversity of cultures and promote inclusivity. They provide opportunities for people from
different backgrounds to learn about and appreciate each other's traditions, customs, and beliefs.
By celebrating a variety of holidays, societies can foster a greater understanding of and respect
for diversity, and create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all. In conclusion,
holidays offer numerous benefits for communities and societies. They foster community
bonding, preserve cultural heritage, and promote diversity and inclusion. By celebrating holidays
and participating in their traditions, individuals can contribute to the vitality and richness of their
communities and societies.
As an example, a small town that hosts an annual harvest festival. Every year, residents
come together to celebrate the year's bounty, share local traditions, and strengthen their
community bonds. The festival might include a parade, a farmers' market, live music
performances, and traditional dance demonstrations. As people from different backgrounds
gather to participate in these activities, they have the opportunity to learn about each other's
cultures, share stories, and foster a sense of belonging. This kind of community bonding can help
to strengthen social cohesion and create a more inclusive and vibrant society.
2. Problem
2.1. Travel Delays and Disruptions
While holidays offer numerous benefits, they can also come with their own set of
challenges. From unexpected travel disruptions to cultural misunderstandings and health
concerns, there are various potential problems that travelers may encounter. In this section, we
will delve into some of the common issues that can arise during holidays and discuss strategies
to mitigate their impact.
9
Holidays are often synonymous with relaxation, adventure, and quality time with loved
ones. However, the reality of travel can sometimes be far from idyllic. Unexpected flight
cancellations, lost luggage, and transportation issues can disrupt travel plans and cause
significant stress. One of the most common travel disruptions is flight cancellations, which can
be due to weather conditions, mechanical problems, or air traffic control issues. Sudden flight
cancellations can throw travel plans into disarray, forcing travelers to rebook flights, potentially
at a higher cost, or facing long delays and layovers. Misplaced or lost luggage is another
frustrating travel experience. The anxiety of not knowing the whereabouts of personal belongings
can add to the stress of travel. Travelers may be forced to purchase essential items, such as
toiletries and clothing, while waiting for their luggage to be located and delivered. Transportation
delays and disruptions can also contribute to the stress of holiday travel. Whether it's a delayed
train, a missed bus connection, or a traffic jam, these issues can cause travelers to miss flights or
other scheduled activities. Additionally, navigating unfamiliar transportation systems ca n be
challenging and time-consuming, adding to the overall stress of travel. Travel delays and
disruptions can have a significant impact on holiday experiences. They can lead to missed
opportunities, financial losses, and emotional distress. The stress of dealing with these issues can
overshadow the enjoyment of travel and create negative memories. To mitigate the stress of travel
delays and disruptions, it's essential to be prepared. This includes purchasing travel insurance,
packing essentials in a carry-on bag, and having a backup plan in case of unexpected changes.
By being prepared and maintaining a positive attitude, travelers can better navigate these
challenges and enjoy a more stress-free holiday experience.
For instance, you're on a long-awaited vacation to Europe. Your flight from the United
States has been delayed for several hours due to bad weather. Once you finally arrive at your
destination, you discover that your luggage has been lost. You're tired, stressed, and unsure of
what to do. You have to spend time replacing essential items, such as clothes and toiletries, and
you're worried about whether your luggage will ever be found. These unexpected delays and
disruptions can significantly impact your travel experience and cause a great deal of stress.
10
2.2 Cultural Misunderstandings
Holidays often involve travel to new and unfamiliar places, where cultural differences can
sometimes lead to misunderstandings or uncomfortable situations. Differences in customs,
language, or etiquette can create challenges for travelers, potentially leading to
misunderstandings or unintentional offense. Customs and traditions vary greatly across cultures.
What is considered polite or respectful in one culture may be offensive or inappropriate in
another. For example, in some cultures, it is customary to remove shoes before entering a home,
while in others, this is seen as disrespectful. Failure to understand and adhere to local customs
can lead to misunderstandings and cultural faux pas. Language barriers can also contribute to
cultural misunderstandings. When travelers are unable to communicate effectively in the local
language, misunderstandings can arise due to misinterpretations or lost in translation. This can
lead to confusion, frustration, and even uncomfortable situations. Etiquette and social norms also
vary significantly across cultures. Differences in dining etiquette, personal space, and greeting
customs can create challenges for travelers. For example, in some cultures, it is considered rude
to point with a finger, while in others, it is a common gesture. Understanding and adhering to
local etiquette can help to avoid misunderstandings and create a more positive travel experience.
To overcome cultural misunderstandings, travelers should make an effort to learn about the
customs, language, and etiquette of their destination. This can be done through research, reading
travel guides, or interacting with locals. Additionally, travelers should be open-minded and
respectful of cultural differences. By understanding and appreciating the unique customs and
traditions of different cultures, travelers can minimize the risk of misunderstandings and create
a more enjoyable and rewarding travel experience.
In particular, when you're traveling to Japan, where it's considered polite to take off your
shoes before entering a home or a temple. If you forget to do this, it could be seen as disrespectful
and offensive to your host. Similarly, in many Western cultures, it's considered rude to slurp your
soup, but in Japan, this is a sign of enjoyment. These cultural differences can lead to
misunderstandings and potentially awkward situations if you're not aware of them.
11
2.3 Health Concerns
While holidays are often associated with relaxation and enjoyment, travelers should be
aware of the potential health risks that can accompany their journeys. From food poisoning to
altitude sickness and contracting diseases, these concerns can significantly impact a traveler's
experience. One of the most common health risks for travelers is food poisoning, which can be
caused by consuming contaminated food or water. To minimize the risk of food poisoning,
travelers should be cautious about their food choices, especially in countries with different food
safety standards. Opting for cooked food, avoiding street vendors, and drinking bottled water are
essential precautions. For those traveling to high-altitude destinations, altitude sickness can be a
significant concern. Symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, fatigue, shortness of
breath, and nausea. To acclimatize gradually, travelers should avoid rapid ascents and allow their
bodies to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. If symptoms worsen, it is important to descend to
a lower altitude. Travelers may also be at risk of contracting diseases while abroad. Mosquito-
borne illnesses such as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus are prevalent in certain regions. To
protect themselves, travelers should take necessary precautions, including using insect repellent,
wearing long sleeves and pants, and sleeping under mosquito nets. Additionally, staying up-to-
date on vaccinations is crucial to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases. Other health concerns
that travelers may encounter include jet lag, sunburn, and heatstroke. Jet lag can disrupt sleep
patterns and affect energy levels. To minimize its effects, travelers should try to adjust their sleep
schedule before their trip and limit alcohol and caffeine consumption. Sunburn can be prevented
by using sunscreen with a high SPF and seeking shade during peak hours. Heatstroke is a serious
condition that can occur in hot, humid environments. It is important to stay hydrated, wear loose-
fitting clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day. By being aware
of these potential health risks and taking necessary precautions, travelers can minimize their
chances of experiencing health problems during their holiday. It is also advisable to consult with
a healthcare professional before traveling to discuss any specific health concerns or
recommendations.
Such as, you're traveling to a developing country with a different climate and sanitation
standards than your own. If you're not careful about what you eat or drink, you could be at risk
12
of contracting foodborne illnesses, such as diarrhea or typhoid fever. Additionally, if you're
traveling to a high-altitude destination, you may experience altitude sickness, which can cause
symptoms like headaches, nausea, and difficulty breathing. It's important to be aware of these
health risks and take precautions, such as avoiding uncooked food or water, and consulting with
a doctor before your trip to discuss any necessary vaccinations or medications.
My friends and I had a trip to Phu Tho last summer. To save money, we traveled from
Hanoi by motorbike. But there was an unexpected incident when the motorbike broke down on
the road and we had to call a mechanic to fix it. You see, even if we prepare carefully, there are
always unexpected events.
By carefully considering these financial factors, you can plan a holiday that is both
enjoyable and affordable. Remember to be mindful of your spending, research options
thoroughly, and be prepared for potential financial challenges.
13
remember how much fun they had if everyone was exhausted and fighting back negative
emotions. If possible, extend your trip a day or two. Doing so may just be the magic that allows
you to do everything and have a smile on your face the entire time. The pursuit of a perfect
holiday can often lead to disappointment. Unrealistic expectations can set you up for failure and
overshadow the positive aspects of your trip. To ensure a more enjoyable and stress-free
experience, it's essential to embrace imperfections and allow for flexibility in your plans.
When we had a trip to Phu Tho, we were looking forward to doing a lot of things together
here. But Phu Tho welcomed us with a heavy rain, we also got lost and our motorbike broke
down. At first everyone seemed quite disappointed and a bit disheartened. But when we arrived
at the hotel and had a short conversation, the whole group agreed to play our best and be satisfied
with what we had, just being able to go together was enough. And at the end of the trip, we had
unforgettable memories and wonderful experiences.
By embracing imperfections and allowing for flexibility, you can reduce stress, increase
your enjoyment, and create a more memorable holiday experience. Remember, the goal is not to
have a perfect trip, but to have a meaningful and enjoyable one.
Holidays are meant to be a step away from the usual humdrum of day-to-day life – a
chance to relax. As much as people plan their vacations to be just that, problems can arise. In
fact, there are some things that happen so often to different travelers they’ve become known as
common holidays problems. Above are some issues our group has compiled from articles as well
as practical experiences.
3. Preparation
3.1 Research and Planning
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday, thorough research and planning are essential.
Start by selecting a destination that fits your interests, budget, and preferred climate, while
considering travel logistics like transportation options and required documents (passport, visa).
Next, choose accommodation based on location, budget, and comfort, booking in advance to
secure the best deals. Create a balanced itinerary that includes key attractions, local experiences,
and relaxation time, while leaving room for flexibility. Ensure you have all necessary travel
14
documents, health insurance, and vaccinations if required. Finally, pack appropriately for the
weather and culture, manage your finances (cash, cards), and make sure you have reliable
communication options like a local SIM card or roaming plan. A well-prepared plan will give
you peace of mind and allow you to fully enjoy your trip.
3.2 Packing
For an enjoyable vacation, smart packing is crucial. Start with essentials like comfortable
clothing suited to the destination's climate, along with a versatile pair of shoes for walking and
any specific outfits needed for activities. Pack travel-sized toiletries, sunscreen, and personal
hygiene products. Include health and safety gear such as any prescribed medications, a basic
first-aid kit, hand sanitizer, masks (if required), and insect repellent. Bring travel documents like
passports, tickets, and travel insurance copies, stored safely. A portable charger, universal
adapter, and necessary tech gear ensure you stay connected. Finally, carry some cash in the local
currency, a reusable water bottle, and space-saving items like packing cubes for better
organization.
When you prepare for a trip, important travel documents and maybe insurance should be
checked before your trip. You must ensure that all that documents and related insurance are in
good order. That’s a key to have a great holiday.
If your trip is within Vietnam territory, you should check all your personal documents
like: National ID to confirm personal identity; Driver's license because it is necessary if you are
the driver; Health documents Such as Health insurance for some unexpected cases. If you have
a holiday with a foreign trip, beside your personal documents, the first one that needs to be
checked is your passport. Passport is an official document issued by a government, certifying the
holder's identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from
foreign countries. Passports typically include personal details, a photograph, and various security
features to prevent forgery. If you lose your passport or there are any problems with your
passport, your trip can be canceled. Many people have had problems like that because they didn’t
check their passport carefully before they departed. The second one is your VISA. A visa is an
15
official document that allows the bearer to legally enter a foreign country. The visa is usually
stamped or glued into the bearer's passport. Visa is a required document so make sure your visa
is still valid. If you don't have a visa yet, prepare it as soon as possible before your trip. To
Vietnamese citizens, some countries do not require a visa, such as: Laos, Singapore, Thailand,
Cambodia,... so if you travel to those countries, you can skip applying for a visa.
The last one is travel insurance. This document is not an optional document so you can
have one or not. Having travel insurance helps you have better experiences and peace of mind
when traveling. Travel insurance has different types, it’s up to customers’ requirements. This
insurance can cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost belongings. If you can
afford it, travel insurance can be a good option to ensure you have a great holiday.
For example, there is a family that travels abroad during a holiday, but unfortunately, their
passports are marked by their children. They don’t check their passport before, then they were in
trouble and the holiday was perfectly destroyed.
Last but not least, making a detailed budget estimate for a trip is very necessary. Because
doing that gives us financial balance to save money and avoid unexpected expenses. You should
start this by estimating how much you will spend on various aspects of your holiday. The internet
is developing so finding information on it is simple. You can research and choose
accommodations which fit your budget. There are different kinds you can consider like: hotels,
homestays or hostels. Next, research which restaurants you would choose to have meals. You
can make a list of potential restaurants based on recommendation from local, friends or
reviewers. Ensuring that the list will respond to all your requests about cost, taste and maybe
location. Don’t forget to consider the reasonable cost for transportation. It will be cheaper if you
can drive by yourself in case you have a license. If you don’t have a license yet or you can’t drive
for a long time, you can book full-service travel transportation. But this option will cost more.
Besides, there are different options for you like train or plane, each option has their own cost.
Considering expenses for souvenirs is essential because maybe you want to buy something for
family and friends. Anyway, you still need a sum of money for an emergency. Just imagine you
16
go on a trip and don't have any extra money, you only have enough money left to go home and
you can’t buy a ticket for the festival in tourist area that is only held once every 5 years. And one
more thing, these days, people usually use credit cards or smart-banking on the telephone but
you need to remember to bring a small amount of cash in case some shops don't accept cards or
banking.
If you travel abroad, understanding the local currency and current exchange rates is also
essential. You need to understand all denominations and the currency units in the country you
are visiting. That’s helpful for you. You can exchange money before your trip at the bank to
transact smoothly.
A small tip for you is using a budgeting app on the telephone that helps you keep track of
your expenses to manage your finances effectively. For example, there are Money Lover or
Finance Assist on App Store. Making a detailed budget estimate for your trip will help you save
a lot of money. Preparing finances more carefully, your experiences during holiday are more
great.
III. Conclusion
Vacation is a good time for us to rest and relax after a long time of studying and working
with high intensity. Some people will spend their vacation meeting people, traveling, or maybe
doing nothing. Each person will have their own way of using their vacation. The holiday season
is a time for celebration, connection, and joy. Embrace the festivities, spend quality time with
loved ones, and create lasting memories. In this discussion, our group wants to learn more about
traveling. Instead of spending time at home every holiday, try planning and taking a short trip.
Traveling will be a great way to relax and unwind after stressful days at work. Going to new
lands, seeing beautiful scenery, and experiencing new things that you have never known will
leave unforgettable emotions in your life. Traveling will have certain benefits, besides paying
attention to the issues that can affect the trip, we need to be carefully prepared to have the best
experiences. Traveling is not just going to another place, it is also preparation, planning for a
long time. Let's do those wonderful things with your friends and family.
