typical vehicle inspection comprises a safety inspection covering such items as tyres, brakes, horn, turn

signals etc… All of our Vehicle Inspectors are trained in all aspects of the inspection process.

Inspections can be carried out at the Crewe Road Office, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 8am
to 4pm and Breakers Offices Tuesday to Friday 10am to 3pm, 4pm to 6pm. and Saturday 9am to 3pm.

Unnecessary delays in licensing your vehicle can be avoided by following these simple but important
suggestions:

All lights must be clean and in working order; this includes turn signals, licence plate lights, parking and
headlights (which must be properly aimed to the left).

Brakes must be in good working order, able to halt a vehicle within the required distance of 50 feet when
traveling at 25 miles per hour.

Glass in windows must be free of holes, breaks or cracks and not be tinted darker than what is allowed
by regulations 23, (3) of the Traffic Regulations (2021 Revision). The front side windows shall, if tinted,
allow a minimum of 35 per cent of light transmission whether the glass is tinted by the manufacturer or
by any other person. The rear windscreen and rear side windows may allow less than the 35 per cent of
light transmission only if fitted by the manufacturer, as standard equipment, and all other tint applied to
the rear windscreen and rear side windows shall allow a minimum of 15 per cent light transmission (Tint
Diagram).

Windscreen shall be of clear glass (a strip of tinted glass, of any degree of light transmission, is allowed;
however this may not exceed six inches in width measured from the top of the windscreen.

Mirrors must be unbroken and display a clear view to rear of the vehicle

Windshield wipers must be fully operative (the rubber blades must be in good condition)

Tyres must be free of bulges, no fabric showing, no bald areas and no cuts. Tread depth must be at least
1 millimeter around the circumference of the tyre and across 75% of its breadth. (Also applies to the
spare tyre)

Horn must be in operating condition

Muffler must effectively reduce sound of engine exhaust. (No leaks in exhaust system)

There must be no gasoline or fluid leaks.

Part of the inspection process may necessitate one of our inspectors to operating your vehicle to
perform a road test. Although controlled, this test, will give our Vehicle Inspector an idea how your
vehicle will perform under various braking and maneuvering situations.

Section 14 of the Traffic Act was amended to state that the inspection cannot exceed:
5 years (vehicle licence) & (sixty-two months vehicle inspection), for a new vehicle for the first time that
has not been registered anywhere before;

3 years (vehicle licence) & (thirty-eight months vehicle inspection), for a vehicle that is less than ten
years old, if the vehicle was registered before; and

1 year (vehicle licence) & (fourteen months vehicle inspection), for a vehicle that is more than ten years
old, whether or not the vehicle was registered before.

On completion of the inspection process, you will be issued a Certificate of Road Worthiness (Pass) or a
Certificate of Defects (Fail). Each inspection will incur a CI$35.00 fee; for Cars, trucks (not exceeding 4000
lbs), omnibuses (not exceeding 15 seats), and trailers not exceeding 2000 lbs.

Trucks (4001 to 33,000 lbs), vans (16 to 40 seats), public transport vehicles and buses (16 to 40 seats)
rental vehicles, taxis, limousines, and special vehicles (not exceeding 10,000 lbs) will incur a fee of
CI$40.00.

Public transport vehicles an#d buses (over 40 seats), truck (33,001 lbs to 60,000 lbs maximum gross
weight), and special vehicles (exceeding 10,001 lbs) will incur a fee of CI$50.00.

A fee of CI$30.00 will be charged for the inspection of a motorcycle.

In the event that your vehicle does not meet all safety requirements set out in the Traffic Act, you will be
issued a Certificate of Defects (fail). Once you have these defects rectified, you will again have to visit the
inspection team to have your vehicle inspected once more. Before the inspection process begins, have
all of your documentation (Insurance cover note or policy or certificate & log book/title) with you. They
will be requested by the Vehicle Inspector. Can’t find your log book? You can purchase a duplicate for the
cost of CI$30.00 (T.R. 4) at any of our locations.

Refrain from using your cell phone while the inspection process is being carried out, your complete
attention will be required. Also, remember to turn off the radio or other electronic device before the
inspection process begins.
