Course Outcome:
CO1: Apply vector calculus to static electric field.
CO2: Apply the basic concepts about electrostatic fields for the calculation of Electric field intensity, Electrical potential.
CO3: Explain Electric field in free space, conductors, dielectric and multiple dielectrics and apply the basic concepts in Capacitance calculations.
CO4: Determine the magnetic flux density, scalar potential, vector potential and energy density.
CO5: Derive Electromagnetic wave equation and apply the Poynting expression.
CO6: Apply the Maxwell equations to solve problems in electromagnetic field theory.

The slab is uniformly polarized. Determine polarization in the slab.

Uniformly charged wire of Length ‘L’ meters and with a charge
density of +λ c/m at a point P which lies along the perpendicular
bisector of wire.

12.b i. Obtain the expression for electric field intensity due to [BL4] [CO2] [7]
uniformly charged circular disc.
ii. Two point charges -4µC and 5µC are located at (2,-1,3) and [6]
(0,4,-2) respectively. Find the potential at (1,0,1) assuming
zero potential at infinity.

13.a Derive an expression for capacitance of parallel conductors having [BL3] [CO3] [13]
three dielectric media.

14.a i. Explain Biot-savart’s law. [BL2] [CO4] [3]


ii. Derive an expression for magnetic flux density and magnetic [10]
field intensity due to a finite and infinite length conductor.

14.b i. Explain scalar and vector magnetic potential. [BL3] [CO4] [7]
ii. Evaluate the inductance of a solenoid of 2500 turns wound [6]
uniformly over a length of 0.5m on a cylindrical paper tube 4cm
in diameter. The medium is air.

15.a Derive the Maxwell’s equation from Faraday’s law, Ampere’s Circuital [BL3] [CO6] [13]
law, Electric and Magnetic Gauss’s law in both integral form and point
forms.

15.b Derive an expression for electromagnetic wave equation for [BL3] [CO5] [13]
conducting medium and free space.

PART C (1 x 15 = 15 Marks)
16.a i. A total charge of 10-8 C is distributed uniformly along a ring of [BL6] [CO2] [7]
radius of 5m. Calculate the potential on the axis of the ring
at a point 5m from the centre of the ring.
ii. Conducting spherical shells with radii a=10cm and b=30cm are [8]
maintained at a potential difference of 100V such that V(rb) = 0

the shells.
OR
16.b A circular loop of wire is placed in a uniform magnetic field of flux [BL5] [CO5] [15]
density 0.5wb/m2. the wire has 200 turns and frequency of rotation of
100 revolutions/minute. If the radius of the coil is 0.2m, Determine (1)
the induced emf, when the plane of the coil is 60° to the flux lines and
(2) the induced emf, when the plane of the coil is perpendicular to the
field.
