Possible causes for drying problems of autoclaves

Vacuklav, Euroklav, Pro-Class, S-Class

a) Drying problems following faulty operation

Operation error Corrective
Use of non-perforated trays and/or non-perforated Use perforated trays and cassettes
cassettes/plastic cassettes (condensate must be able to flow away before loading).
Flat-lying foil packaging Set up in index card manner with MELAG package holder
Overloading of the chamber Comply with loading volumes and rules
Chamber loaded incorrectly Use trays and foil with MELAG tray rack and/or MELAG
package holder
Use of tray paper as tray overlay Sterilize without tray paper where possible
Sterilization load is blocking the rear chamber Use MELAG tray rack
supports
Light load on the lower tray and heavy load on the Light load on the upper and heavy on the lower tray
upper tray (condensate must be able to flow away from the load).
Wrong program selection, e.g. unwrapped Observe correct program selection
equipment and Quick-Program S selected
Over–sized and/or multiple-layer sheets used Keep the sheets as small as possible and use only
as wrapping single-layer sheets
Program is interrupted during drying phase. Allow the program to run through until the end of drying
phase
Cold start and full load Allow the autoclave to heat to the working temperature and
(only valid until software version 3.34) then start program
Pre-heat switched off Switch on the pre-heat especially when sterilizing overnight
(only valid until software version 3.34)

With difficult loads, you can select “additional drying.”

b) Drying problems resulting from faulty setup / installation

Setup error Corrective
Inclination of the autoclave was ignored Set up autoclave according to the record of installation
(adjust unit front feet: 3 rotations for a short chamber,
5 rotations for a long chamber)
Discharge hose too long and lacking incline Ensure that the discharge hose is not kinked and not sagging
Siphon is blocked, trap is jammed Ensure a free siphon
Condenser blocked Condenser is dusty (too close to the wall/ assembly in too
®
(with Vacuklav 31/31-B/23-B/ 23 B+/ 31 B+) narrow a cupboard); condenser is choked (by e.g. oil)
results in an inefficient pump

d) Device faults
Device fault Corrective
Vacuum pump inefficient or leaky Check the maximum evacuation times on the sterilization
protocol:
®
Vacuklav 23-B/ 23 B+ c 3:40 min
®
Vacuklav 31 und 31-B/31 B+ c 3 min
®
Vacuklav 24-B/24 B+ c 2:30 min
®
Vacuklav 24 /30-B/ 30 B+ c 2 min
®
Euroklav 23V-S/ 23 VS+ c 3:40 min
®
Euroklav 29V-S/ 29 VS+ c 3 min
possible pump replacement
Pressure release inlet blocked or disabled Small parts in the condensate return hose;
®
Upgrade chamber steam generator (all Vacuklav ) or
®
chamber T piece on the pressure release filter (Euroklav );
pressure release filter choked;
Device internal hoses kinked;
®
Effluent hose kinked, too long, water skin etc. (Vacuklav 24,
24-B, 24-B/L,30-B, 24 B+, 24 B/L+, 30 B+)

Vacuklav, Euroklav, Pro-Class, S-Class

Device fault Corrective

Autoclave feeds without reason Capillary regulator “level” steam generator/ tubular heating
element) is damaged. Steam generator has a bad heat
transfer
(Test instruction: Fault 34/36)
Feed pump pumps too much water Clipper duct feed pump fault
