Human Resources
The most important and valuable resources in any country are the skills, talents and abilities
which the people possess and are so termed Human Resources.
Human resources refer to the skills, talents, knowledge, abilities and energies that human beings
have which can be used to satisfy needs and wants of man. A variety of human resources exists
in the Caribbean such as engineers, doctors, teachers, farmers, poets, etc. The skills of these
people are used to produce a wide variety of goods and services which help to maintain and
improve the standard of living.
Even though the population of a country is more than simply a resource to be exploited, it is
obviously important for a country to have a productive working population which generate
sufficient wealth and stimulate enough economic activity to meets the needs of the population.
For this reason efforts are to be made to ensure that the population is healthy, well-educated and
highly skilled so that it will be as productive as possible.
Developing the human resource is about harnessing or improving on the skills knowledge, talents
energies and abilities of people. This will ensure that each worker is enable to contribute as much
as he or she can and in the way that best suits his or her capabilities, skills and talents.
Governments therefore need to develop a workforce that has a wide range of knowledge, talents
skills and abilities.
medical problems - doctors and scientist combine their skills and knowledge and skills
to fight diseases:
political problems – politicians along with other technocrats are needed to make laws
to protect citizens, to manage the resources of the country and to sustain an orderly
society.
social problems - engineers and other professionals use their skills to build stadiums,
theatres and gymnasiums for recreational activities which are important to mental
wellness and well-being.

The importance of developing human resource in any country is of utmost importance. The
physical resources of a country cannot be developed without the intervention of human resource;
in fact, a country's economic growth is solely dependent on how the people use the skills,
technology and creativity to develop the physical resources.
