Release Summary
Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro is continuously modified to be fully compatible with the Windows 8.1 operating
system.

Release Identification Information

Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro version 8.1.

Operating System Requirements

The minimum operating system requirement for FliteDeck Pro 8.1 is Windows 8.1.

Hardware Supported
Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro is supported on the Windows Surface 2 tablet.

Jeppesen has tested FliteDeck Pro 8.1 for compatibility with the following Windows 8.1 devices:
• Microsoft Surface 2 tablet

NOTE Jeppesen has not tested FliteDeckFliteDeck Pro for compatibility with devices
that are not manufactured by Microsoft.

Connectivity Considerations
FliteDeck Pro requires a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular internet connection to download data updates and to
activate the application. The time necessary to download and install initial data and subsequent
updates depends on the speed of the internet connection and the size of your data coverage area.

To determine aircraft position (for moving map and ownship functions), the Windows device must be
paired with a third-party GPS receiver. If the GPS receiver is Bluetooth-enabled, it must support the
RFCOMM serial service, which is necessary to provide NMEA data.

Release Summary

What’s New in FliteDeck Pro 8.1

Release 8.1 includes multiple changes that directly enhance the user experience, in addition to a
variety of change requests that address software issues. See the Release Notes documentation for a
comprehensive list of the change requests included in the 8.1 release, along with a list of known
issues.

The following table describes changes that directly enhance the user experience:

Table 2-1 FliteDeck Pro 8.1 Enhancements

Enhancement Description
Easier access to brightness adjustment Users can now tap a button on the toolbar to
access the device’s settings menu, which
includes a brightness slider.

Day/Night Theme Users can now alternate between day theme and
night theme by tapping the Brightness button to
reveal the Night Theme switch. By default the
app appears in Day theme.

GPS Users can now pair the device with a third-party

GPS receiver. When the app senses GPS
availability (and other app settings are
appropriately configured), the GPS Status button
appears. By tapping the button, users can view
current ground speed, GPS altitude, last position
received, and accuracy status.

Moving Map If the device is paired with a GPS receiver, users

can now specify whether to enable the moving
map. When the moving map is enabled, the map
moves to reflect the route of flight.

North Up/Track Up If the device is paired with a GPS receiver and

the Enable Moving Map option is set to On, users

Installing and Activating FliteDeck Pro

This chapter describes how to install FliteDeck Pro onto a single Windows device. If your organization
uses a Mobile Device Management (MDM) service provider (sometimes called a “kitting provider”) to
deploy software onto multiple distributed devices, refer to your service provider’s documentation.

Installing FliteDeck Pro

Before you install FliteDeck Pro 8.1 onto a Windows tablet device, ensure the following conditions:
• The operating system on the device is Windows 8.1.
• The device has at least 8 GB of hard disk space available.
• You must determine whether the device operating system is 32-bit, 64-bit, or ARM-based.
To determine the operating system type, access Control Panel > System and Security >
System.
• You must have a Microsoft developer license or the device must have a Microsoft Sideloading
Product Activation key.
• If you use a Microsoft developer license, the device must be connected to the Internet.
- For information about obtaining a Microsoft developer license, refer to the following
Microsoft article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/apps/hh974578.aspx

Troubleshooting FliteDeck Pro

This chapter describes basic FliteDeck Pro troubleshooting guidelines.

Escalation Guidelines
If you are unable to resolve an issue by using the resources in this guide, you can escalate the issue to
Jeppesen Technical Support, as described in Chapter 1.

Gather as much of the following information as you can. By providing this information, you help to
ensure a rapid resolution.

First, determine whether the issue is reproducible on a test device. If so, provide Technical Support
with the following information:
• Recipient name.
• Complete description of the issue, including a detailed workflow that led up to the issue. If
possible, include screen captures or video (or both) of the issue.
• Error codes, if any.
• Detailed description of the device, including device settings. For example, determine the
following:
- Sleep Mode setting
- Display Lock setting
- Enroute View settings, including moving map and ownship
- Terminal Charts View settings, including ownship
- Application version number and build number
• Type of network—such as Wi-Fi or cellular:
- If Wi-Fi, describe the location from which the network is accessing data—for example,
hotel, FBO, or home.
- If cellular, specify whether 3G or 4G.
• Type of third-party GPS receiver

Quick Resolution Guidelines

This section provides instructions to help you rapidly resolve issues. Links to expanded instructions
and processes are indicated where necessary.

Unable to Perform an Update

1. If an error message appears, see Error Codes for common error messages and resolutions.
2. Verify that the device is connected to a strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal.
• Ensure that the device is not in Airplane mode. To do so, tap Settings, and then tap the
Wireless Network icon. Make sure that Airplane mode is set to OFF.
• After you verify that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular signal, open a browser session
and verify that the device can access a typical internet page. For example, some public and
hotel Wi-Fi connections indicate a connected status, but do not provide a functional internet
connection to the device.
3. If problems persist, exit, and then restart FliteDeck Pro. See Exiting FliteDeck Pro.
4. If problems persist, restart the device.
• Open the Settings charm.
• Then tap the Power icon and choose Restart.
5. If problems persist, deactivate, and then reactivate FliteDeck Pro.
Before you deactivate FliteDeck Pro, make sure that the device has an active and stable
internet connection and power source. After you restart FliteDeck Pro, it automatically accesses
your registration information and prompts you for an initial data update. For more information
about deactivating FliteDeck Pro, see Deactivating FliteDeck Pro.
6. If all previous attempts do not resolve the issue, as a last resort, you can uninstall and reinstall
the app. Before you uninstall FliteDeck Pro, be sure to deactivate it.
• To uninstall the FliteDeck Pro app, access the Tile view; then press and hold the FliteDeck Pro
tile. A row of options appears at the bottom of the screen. Choose Uninstall. When you uninstall
the app, the system retains your registration information.
• Follow the instructions in the Installing FliteDeck Pro chapter to reinstall the app. After you
reinstall the app, FliteDeck Pro automatically registers according to your existing registration
information and prompts you for an initial data update.

Unable to Use Registration Information on Another Device

Each FliteDeck Pro activation link is applicable to a specific device. Activation links cannot be shared
on multiple devices. If a user attempts to activate FliteDeck Pro on a second device, FliteDeck Pro
becomes active on that device. However, if the user attempts to use Application Manager on the
previously registered device, FliteDeck Pro displays an error message. To resolve the issue,
deactivate the application on both devices and reactivate the software on only one device.
