Personal Insights

The political account of the Philippines has been the talk of the town in many

countries that were even published in many books, magazines, documentation, and

cinematography. However, past documentation brought so many controversies that

ignites and fuels the fire between the two sides of history. With further analyses and

supporting pieces of evidence, it is clear that the speech of Marcos dominated

everyone's' hearts.

The Marcos regime demanded an equally strong response, one that in its

imagery and its content would leave no doubt of the American–Philippine relationship.
With his public comments, Marcos vocalized an unequivocal devotion to the

government that was the key supporter of his rule in the Philippines. Ultimately, this

welcome was one of the strongest public demonstrations of United States support for

the Marcos regime in the Philippines, coming at a time when that very regime was

losing its hold on power.

Former President Ronald Reagan (of America) highly regarded Marcos and his

wife, Imelda, for improving the Philippines’ economy, taking care of refugees under their

direct sponsorship, and improving the quality of life in the Philippines.

Marcos was not only trusted by President Reagan but also its citizens. American

firms were the largest investors in the Philippines under his regime. It shows the

confidence of the American investors that Marcos will make progress in the Philippines’

economic growth.

Moreover, President Reagan continued to highlight Marcos’s achievements in

uplifting the Philippines, lauding Marcos’s role in development. Each of the

“achievements” referred to the supposed fruits of collaborations between the Philippines

and either the U.S., further underscoring the importance of the American–Philippine

relationship.

In conclusion, knowing that the past makes who we are today, every Filipino

should seek to know the holistic truth about our history. Thus, it is important to not just

believe what is believed by many; a true wise man dives deep down on academic

resources—which authentically hold the truth of our past.
