III. Procedure
A. Preliminaries
a. Greetings
b. Classroom Management
c. Checking of Attendance
B. Review
Begin the lesson by asking students to recall what they know about shapes and their properties.
Prompt them with questions such as:
 What shapes can you name?
 How many sides does a square have?
 Can you think of a shape that has four equal sides?

C. Motivation
Show students a poster of Sofia’s bedroom. “We can see in the picture Sofia's bedroom. The
floor is tiled, very clean and tidy. We can also see the bathroom, which also has a tiled floor.”
Ask them:
1. What shape is his bedroom and bathroom?
2. What shape are the tiles?
3. Which part is more spacious, the bedroom or the bathroom?
4. Which part of the house do you like to clean?
This will lead them into the lesson about area.

Today, we will study on how to find the area of a given figure using square-tile units.

D. Activity
Interactive Workshop: Tile It Up!

Materials Needed:
 Square paper tiles
 Various templates of shapes (squares, rectangles, and more complex shapes)
 Large sheet of manila paper

Instructions:
1. Introduction to Tiles:
 Explain to students that they will be using square tiles to measure the area of different
shapes.
2. Shape Preparation:
 Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a template of a shape
drawn on manila paper.
3. Tile Placement:
 Each group will then use the square paper tiles to cover the shape completely without
overlapping.
 Encourage them to count the number of tiles used to cover their shape.
4. Sharing Results:
 Once completed, each group will present their shape to the class, stating how many tiles
they used and why they think that is the area of their shape.
5. Discussion:
 Discuss strategies used to cover the shapes and any challenges they faced.

E. Analysis
Ask students to reflect on their experiences. Pose questions such as:
 How did you decide how to place the tiles?
 Was it easy or hard to cover the shape completely?
 Did you find any patterns in the number of tiles used for different shapes?

Using the square-tile unit we can measure the area or the length and width of a thing or a place.
Area tells us how big the space is inside a figure.

1 square tile
We can find the number of square by multiplying the
measure of 1 side by itself.
How many squares along the side?
How many squares along the side?
Area of a square= side x side
A=sxs
A= 5 x 5
A = 25 square units

We can also find the no. of square by multiplying the measure of the length and the width.
The horizontal side of the area is called the length.

The vertical side of the area is called the width.

Let us count how many square tiles are there in the length? L= 6 square tiles
Let us count or the width, W= 3 square tiles

To solve the area of a rectangle, multiply the length by the width.

Area of a Rectangle = Length x Width
A=LxW
A= 6 x 3
A= 18 square units
F. Abstraction
Guide students to understand that the area of a shape is the total number of square units
that can fit inside it. Explain that this concept can be applied to real-world situations, such as
flooring a room or planting a garden.

How can you find the area of a figure? (by counting the square tiles that can fit inside it, by
multiplying the measure of 1 side to itself and by multiplying the length and width of the rectangle.)

G. Application
Group Activity (Pair Activity)

Group 1: Directions: Find the area of each object by counting how many square tiles.

1. Teacher’s table ______ square units

2. Pupil’s desk ______ square units

3. Mat ______ square units

4. living room’s floor ______ square units

5. Bed ______ square units

Group 2: Directions: Find the area of the given floor plan using the given formula.
8 units
1.
5 units A= L x W
Kitchen’s floor
A= ___x____ = ______ square
units

Church’s
2. 4 units A= s x s
floor
A= ___x____ = ______ square
units

2 units

3. Comfort 6 units A=LxW
room’s
A= ___x____ = ______ square
floor
units

Group 3: Directions: Find the area of each problem.

1. Wilcon orders a party banner for his son’s birthday party. The length of the banner is 5 square
units and the width is 3 square units. What is the area of the party banner?

2. Mac renovates his room that is of 10 tiles long and 8 tiles wide What is the area of Mac’s
room?

3. If you have a square that is 3 tiles on each side, how many square tiles are needed to cover it?

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Find the area of each figure.

1. _____ square units

2. ______ square units

3. _____ square units

3 units

3 units A= side x side

4. A= ____ x ____
A= _______ square units

10 units

5.
4 units A= length x width
A= ----- x ------
A= ----- square units

V. Assignment
Directions: Create a shape using household items (like books, toys, etc.) and determine how many
square tiles you need to cover that shape. Draw the shape, label the dimensions, and write down the total
area in square tiles.
