OBIEE 12c Installation Steps

This post covers the installation of OBIEE 12c. Following files need to be downloaded:

1. JDK 1.8.0.51+ version

Weblogic Installation




The Weblogic need to be installed first for OBIEE 12c setup.

We need to run the command from JDK installed on your machine. The below command will run the
installer.

Please make sure to open the Command Prompt with Administrator Privileges.

Java.exe -jar C:\OBIEE12cSetup\fmw_12.2.1.0.0_infrastructure.jar

Once clicked this extraction will take some time to display the installation screen.

The Weblogic server is installed successfully.

OBIEE 12c Installation

Now we will install the OBIEE on the machine. There is a slight change between 11g and 12c setup. In
OBIEE 11g, we used to run the RCU setup first and then OBIEE 11g setup. But in OBIEE 12c, we will the
RCU first and OBIEE setup after that.

There are 2 zip files for OBIEE 12c. The first zip will extract as setup_bi_platform-12.2.1.0.0_win64.exe
file and another zip extract will hold one more zip file setup_bi_platform-12.2.1..0_win64-2.zip. You
need not to further extract this 2nd zip file. Extract it just once and the files will appear as shown above.

Run the setup_bi_platform-12.2.1.0.0_win64 exe file with Administrator privileges.

In My case it asked for Repair the Visual c++ 2010. In some installs it may not ask for this step if there is
no repair or updates required. Click Next.

OBIEE 12c RCU Setup

The rcu setup is no more a separate download in OBIEE 12c. It is available in the installed directory of
OBIEE 12c. In our case, it is available in below folder:

Configuring OBIEE 12c

While configuring the OBIEE 12c, my installation was failed with error message that
BI_PRODUCT_HOME path is not set. Hence, when I restarted the configuration part I setup the
BI_PRODUCT_HOME variable in the Environment Variable before preceding with configuration.

The path of BI_PRODUCT_HOME will be C:\OBIEE12C\Middleware\Oracle_Home\bi

The configuration file resides at below location:

C:\OBIEE12C\Middleware\Oracle_Home\bi\bin

Click on the config.exe (config) file to start the configuration. Run the file with Administrator privileges.

Ignore this Java error. This is due to my higher version of JDK. Click Next.

I kept the domain name same as bi. You can give another name like bifoundation_domain etc if you
would like to give. The default user is weblogic. But you can change the username as well. Enter the
password for this user.

Once completed. Click on the Next. It will open the below window OBIEE 12c GUI page automatically.

Login with username weblogic and password we specified during configuration.

This is the default enrich dashboard.

This is the Visual Analyzer reports.

Finally, we are done with our OBIEE 12c installation successfully. Congrats!!
