Exploring Swimming Basics
WHAT IS SWIMMING?
Swimming, in recreation and sports, the propulsion of the body through water
by combined arm and leg motions and the natural flotation of the body. Swimming
as an exercise is popular as an all-around body developer and is particularly useful
in therapy and as exercise for physically handicapped persons. It is also taught for
lifesaving purposes. Moreover, swimming is practiced as a competitive sport and is
one of the top audience draws at the Olympic Games. For activities that involve
swimming, see also diving, lifesaving, surfing, artistic swimming, underwater diving,
and water polo.
BACKSTROKE- The backstroke, or back crawl, uses alternating and opposite arm
movements. As one arm pulls through the water from an overhead position to the
hip, the other arm recovers above the water from the hip to the overhead position
and vice versa
BREASTSTROKE- The backstroke, or back crawl, uses alternating and opposite arm
movements. As one arm pulls through the water from an overhead position to the
hip, the other arm recovers above the water from the hip to the overhead position
and vice versa
SWIMMING EQUIPMENT
1.Rash guard
2. Goggles
3. Swim Cap
RASH GUARD- A rash guard is a fitted, spandex top that protects beachgoers from
the sun and other elements. Surfers typically wear them while they are riding the
waves or hanging out on the shore. Sport a rash guard in and out of the water to
keep you more shielded from Mother Nature's elements.
GOGGLES- Wearing goggles keeps the water out of your eyes and means it's much
easier to see. In a pool, this means you'll spot the wall much earlier, as well as other
people in the pool. In open water like the ocean, you'll be able to more easily spot
any obstacles or hazards, which is important from a safety perspective.
SWIM CAP- Helps to protect your hair. Swim caps are not meant for keeping your
hair dry, but they do add a small layer of protection against chlorine damage to
your hair. Helps to keep your head warm in the cooler weather. Helps to protect our
water and filtration system by minimising hair in the filters.
