In tutorial groups comprising 3-4 students, write an essay Discussing ONE application of a
Physical Chemistry Principle to a situation/problem in your program of study.
The essay will be graded on the following criteria.

1. Content 20
• Provide context for the problem (Background) 2
• Statement of relevant Physical Chemistry Principle 2
• Explanation of the Physical Chemistry principle(s) relevant to the

problem. (Theoretical principles)

• Application of the principle to the situation/problem

• Use of suitable diagrams/equations to aid explanation.
2. Use of Language 10
• Use of appropriate terminology/jargon concerning the topic 4
• Clarity and Precision – Writing is clear and concise. 2
• Grammar and Syntax – Proper sentence structure, subject-verb 2
agreement, etc. 2
• Logical flow and cohesion – Ideas should be connected logically with
appropriate transitions
3. Adherence to Format 5
• The essay must be typewritten using Times New Roman, size 12 and
double-spaced. The essay should include an introduction, body, and
conclusion and should be 2000-2500 words (the word count excludes
references).
4. Reference 5
• Use of APA 7th edition (at least 10 references) 3
• In-text citation 2
