GENERAL PHYSICS 1
FINAL WORKSHEET

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the following in a clean paper and copy before answering. You may also print it in a long bond
paper. Round off to 2 decimal places (nearest hundredths) in calculated answers. Show your solutions.

A. True or False. Right minus wrong! (1pt each)

__________1. The unit of force is also equivalent to kg•m2/s2.
__________2. If you push against a wall, you are doing work.
__________3. The car is speeding up if it has an acceleration of -5 m/s2.
__________4. In the law of acceleration, acceleration is directly proportional to the net force.
___________5. The heavier the object means that it will have a larger energy stored in to it..
___________6. Increasing the mass of the object will also increase its kinetic energy.
___________7. Tension force is a negative force.
___________8. Pounds (lbs) and Newtons are units of force.
___________9. Normal force is a force that is perpendicular to the surface of an object.
___________10. The kinetic energy of a ball thrown upwards will eventually decrease before increasing again.
___________11. A car traveling at 100 km/hr strikes an unfortunate bug and splatters it. The force of impact is the same for both.
___________12. Friction force will speed up any motion.
___________13. Weight is the ratio between mass and acceleration due to gravity.
___________14. Spring and gravitational force are non-contact forces.
___________15. The higher the mass of an object, the lesser the inertia.

B. Identification. Right minus wrong! (1pt each)

__________1. It is a push or a pull which tends to change the state of rest and or of uniform motion.
__________2. Is the measure of the amount of friction existing between two surfaces.
__________3. It states that an object stays at rest, if it tends to stay at rest, and stays in motion if it tends to stay in motion.
__________4. It is a quantity with only magnitude.
__________5. A law which states that within a closed system, energy can change form, but the total amount of energy is constant.
__________6. The product of the mass and velocity of an object is called its _________.
__________7. He postulated the laws of motion and universal gravitation.
__________8. Is defined as the force exerted on an object multiplied by the distance the object moves due to that force.
__________9. The product obtained by multiplying the average value of a force by the time during which it acts or the equivalence of
the change in momentum produced by the force in this time interval.
__________10. Acceleration due to gravity has a value of ____________.

D. Problem solving. Show your solution. (5pts each)

1. In an emergency stop to avoid accidents, a shoulder strap seatbelt holds a 75-kilogram passenger firmly in place. If the car was
initially traveling at 70 km/h and came to a stop in 5 seconds. along a straight, level road. What was the force applied to the
passenger by the seat belt?
2. A crate with a mass of 50 kg is pushed along a frictionless floor 10m East with a force of 124 N. Calculate the work done.
3. If a man has a mass of 75kg and is running with an average velocity of 3m/s, what is his kinetic energy?
4. A 100-kg person runs up the stairs 10 meters high in 1.5 minutes. What is his power output?
5. What is the mass of an object hanging on a 5 m ceiling if it has a potential energy of 5.4 kilojoules?
6. Calculate the friction force acting on a 200kg object that is sitting on a flat surface with a coefficient of friction of 0.15.
A 10-kilogram object is hanging on a rope.
7. What is the tension in the rope if the acceleration of the object is zero?
8. What is the tension force on the rope if the object is pulled upwards having an acceleration of 0.5 m/s2?
9. If the rope is pulled 20 meters upward, how much work is exerted?
A small car with a mass of 1,600 kg is moving with an acceleration of 4 m/s2.
10. How much time in minutes will it take for this car to travel 30 km if its power output is 80 hp?
11. Assuming constant acceleration, how far (in kilometers) will this car travel in 10 minutes?
