Font vs Type Face

Typeface – family of fonts (Arial, Calibri)

Font – variations of weights of a typeface (Italic, Bold)

Three Basic Kinds of Typeface

1. Serif

- identified by the extra marks at the end of letters

- lahat ng typeface na may edges sa gilid (SONY, ABS-CBN, HONDA)

- indicates tradition, originality, and integrity

2. Sans serif

- more modern

- without serif’s more traditional strokes and dashes, the sans-serif


font family is seen as much more modern and bold

- google, spotify

3. Decorative

- creative purposes

- the function of this typeface is aesthetic more than readable

Why typeface is Powerful?

- typefaces clothe words

- it changes the meaning of text

- word’s clothes information

Design Elements

1. Emphasis

- refers to the importance or value given to apart of the text-based


content

- bold, change color

- newspapers, hand-outs, presentations (PPT)

2. Appropriateness – refers to how fitting or suitable the text is used


for a specific audience, purpose, or event

- appropriate yung font sa brand

3. Alignment

- where you should paste the text

- refers to how the text is positioned in the page

- this can be left, right, center or justified
