INTRODUCTION
Family conflict can really affect the academic performance of high school students, leading to decreased
focus, attendance issues, and overall lower grades. Students from families facing difficulties are more likely
to feel anxious, sad, or have emotional breakdown, which makes it even harder to concentrate on their
studies. This research aims to investigate how parents express their feeling and listen to their children,
impact the academic motivation of teenagers experiencing family conflict. Family problems including
money troubles, relationship issues and parental support having a profound effect in academic
performance of high school students.
RESEARCH QUESTION
1. What kind of family conflict do G8 learners commonly experience?
2. What are the impact of family conflict to learner’s academic performance?
METHODOLOGY
The data on the impact of family conflict in academic performance of high school students, among the 100
grade 8 students of AMPMNHS were collected for the research. Which was conducted on march 25, 2025.
The survey answered by the participants were anonymous and confidentially for their response. The survey
forms are all completed at the same day. The participating students are from the different sections of G8
students in AMPMNHS. The 100 G8 student participant were give the total of nine question. The 7
questionnaire contains about family issues. The respondent is asked to rate the extend to which various
statements apply to their family, using a 5 point scale ( represented by the numbered columns 1-5 ). Each
statement describes a potential family problem such as frequent arguments, lack of emotional support,
financial difficulties, major life changes, feeling unsafe at home, communication difficulties, and stress or
anxiety due to family issues. The other questions asks for a self assessment of overall academic
performance this year, offering four options ranging from “EXCELLENT” to “POOR”. The last one is a
multiple choice question asking about the impact of family problems on the respondent’s school life. The
respondents can select one or more options from a list of potential consequences, including missed,
school, difficulty concentrating, lower grades, increased absences, decreased extracurricular participation
or none of the above.

When things are difficult at home, it can also make school harder. Some student said they missed school
because of family stuff, and lots of them had a hard time focusing in class. It’s tough to pay attention to
you’re lessons when you have other mind. Sadly, many students also noticed their grades went down,
which makes sense if they’re not able to concentrate or if they’re missing school. some students also
missed more school days than usual, and some even stopped doing as many after-school activities. Maybe
they had to help out at home or just didn’t feel up to it. It’s good that some students said their home life
didn’t affect their school, but for many, it’s seems like family problems can make learning and being at
school much more challenging. Most student still felt their schoolwork was “good” but it’s important to
remember that even if you’re doing okay in school, family problems can still make things a lot tougher for
you.
It looks like family issues can have a significant impact on the lives of young people, both at home and at
school. Many of the responses suggest that things like frequent arguments, lack of emotional support,
financial problems, big life changes, feeling unsafe or neglected, communication difficulties are experiences
for a lot of the young people who answered. These challenges at home can hen lead to difficulties at
school, such as trouble concentrating, lower grades, missing school, and withdrawing from extracurricular
activities. Even though many students still feel their academic performance is “good”, its important to
remember that family problems can still make learning and school life much harder.
CONCLUSION
This study aims to explore the relationship between family conflict and academic performance among high
school students. A survey consist 9 questions was distributed, with respondents asked to rate each
question on a scale of 1-5. The results, collected over 2 hours, revealed that many students had
experienced adverse effects from family conflict on their academic performance.
