Writing as a Language
Writing is a form of communication that uses written symbols, such as Letters and Words to
convey meaning. It is a complex process that involves the use of language, grammar,
vocabulary, and syntax to create written text.
Writing is a societal thing. The writing stylistics in different forms as seen in writing are contextual
in nature and depend on the relationships, groups and communities involved. For example, all
the forms of writing demand some level of cognitive (Mental) competence which one has to show
for one to be able to function as expected on some certain occasions in any given society, one's
writing must conform to the conventions of form and style, although at times one may want to
expand that to be able to accommodate some conventions of writing. Our society is a complex
one, with various kinds of practices and concepts about diverse behaviors.
Writing is an integral part of the society, for the society has a lot of demands, for one to meet
these demands one's use of language is paramount.
Writing is an important skill that plays a fundamental role in different aspects of life including
education, communication, self-expression and professional development. Lastly, it is the ability
to express thought, ideas, opinions in written form. This thereby makes writing a productive skill.
Speaking and writing are productive skills, while listening and reading are receptive skills.

1) Pre-Writing Stage: The initial stage of the writing process, which involves brainstorming,
researching and planning.
2) Drafting: The stage where the writer creates a rough draft of the text, focusing on getting ideas
down rather than perfecting grammar and sentences.
3) Revising: This is the stage where the writer reviews and revises the drafted texts, making
changes to content, structure and language.
4) Editing: It's the stage where the writer checks the text for errors on grammar, punctuation and
spelling.
5) Proofreading: It is the final stage of the writing process, where the writer checks the text for
remaining errors or typos
6) Publishing: The stage where the written text is shared with others either through printing,
digital publishing or other means.
1) Clarity/Unity: When writing, one should use clear and concise language to convey one's
message. Make sure you avoid ambiguity so that your words will be easy to comprehend.
2) Conciseness: Use a few words to convey your message. The use of verbose words, phrases
or sentences should be avoided.
3) Coherence: Use transitional markers (Linking words) or phrases to connect ideas when
writing. Ensure what you're writing flows logically and is easy to follow.
4) Accuracy: Your writing should be error free, (Grammar, punctuation and spelling must be
checked or else, your writing will be flawed with grammatical errors, spelling errors and
punctuation errors. Thereby, making your work incomplete and not fitting for public consumption.
Many Writers are too lazy to go through their work before publishing and when their works are
published, there will be a lot of errors. Writers should make sure their works pass through the
stages of writing before they reach the public.
5) Completeness or relevance: Your writings must be complete and relevant to your audience's
purpose.
