NARRATIVE PRESENTATION:
I. INTRODUCTION
Barangay San Miguel was the former name of this barangay, President Carlos P. Garcia
created is a political unit on May 21, 1959 thru an Administrative Act. In the year 1965, the barangay
council decided to change the name from San Miguel to Kagawasan. Today Barangay Kagawasan is composed
of seven (7) Puroks, with a total land area of 556.9379 hectares and has a total of 721 household and a
population of 3,129 (male 1,528 female 1,601) with a registered voters of 2,170, has a total of 625
household connected by Electricity.
Part of Barangay Development through the efforts and initiatives of the various
personalities that took turns in holding the reign of governance of the municipality since then. The
following are the list of barangay chiefs who had led the people of Kagawasan and turn the area into to
progressive barangay.
Since 1959 – 1961 the Appointed was Miguel Jarantilla “Teniente del Barrio” which is the first
name of this barangay “San Miguel” in honor of his name of Miguel Jarantilla.
In 1961 – they had Barangay Election and Roberto Suminguit was the winner, during the time in
1965 the barangay council made a resolution to change the name of Barangay San Miguel into Barangay
Kagawasan because Miguel Jarantilla administered the barangay will copied from the Spaniard Character.
Therefore during the time of Roberto Suminguit was change the name of this barangay. Roberto Suminguit
was the first Barangay Captain and they had dedicated a two (2) terms to administered this barangay
from 1961 – 1967.
In 1967 – 1985 Julian J. Ogang was the second Barangay Captain during the time of President
Ferdinand Marcos, the had administered of twenty (20) years in services as barangay captain.
Barangay Kagawasan administered by the the Barangay Council from December 1, 2023 headed
by Honorable Dennis T. Larotin and seven (7) Barangay Kagawad; 1st Barangay Kagawad Chito A.
Galvez, 2nd Barangay Kagawad Reymar P.Aso, 3rd Barangay Kagawad Ricky M. Salgarino, 4th Barangay
Kagawad Eduardo D. Elnar , 5th Barangay Kagawad Ahlen B. Gomez, 6th Barangay Kagawad Prije L
Retiza, 7th Barangay Kagawad Rico M. Sorino, SK Chairman Josiah Vince Bechiee T. De Aquino and
Three (3) Barangay Functionaries which is Fabian T. Cañas as Barangay Secretary, Richel
Ringquijo as Barangay Treasurer and Tito M. Larotin as Barangay Encoder and . The Barangay
Personnel has a total of 30 Barangay Tanod, 21 Barangay Health Workers, 1 Barangay Nutrition
Scholar, 10 Lupon Tagapamayapa, 7 Purok Presidents and 2 Day Care workers, and 1 Barangay Aid.
The Barangay Kagawasan is bounded on the north by Barangays Sugbay Uno and Barangay
Poblacion, on the east by coastal Barangays of Bacayawan and Baranggay Buburay on the west Barangay Sa
Isidro and Sugbay Dos, Municipality of Pitogo and on the south by Barangay Balanagan. Today Barangay
Kagawasan is the Capital Barangay of the Municipality of Dimataling.
The General Description and Characteristics of the Barangay 5% coastal, 90% plain, 5% hilly,
5% clay-loam, 90% loam, 5% sandy loam. Barangay Kagawasan is an Agricultural barangay. The Economic
condition and major source of livelihood; Farming, Business, Employment, Fishing. Type of Agricultural
Crops; Rice, Corn, Coconut, Banana, and Gardening. Still Traditional farming system.
The Physical Infrastructure Facilities; for transportation habal-habal, Van and for
communication facilities has a two (2) tower of Globe and Smart. For Water Supply DIWAS, Deep Wheel

KALAHI Solar Dryer with Storage, 2 Day Care Centers, Verme Building, VAWC Building, Barangay Health

Secondary, with on going construction of College School.

Council (BNC), Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC), Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC),
Barangay Human Right Action Officer (BHRAO), Barangay Council Protection for Children (BCPC, Barangay
Disaster Rick Reduction Management Council (BDRRM), Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT),
Barangay Physical Fitness Sports Development Council (BPFSDC), Lupon Tagapamayapa and this organization
headed by Barangay Captain.
