Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about the band


“Mindless Self Indulgence”, more often just called “MSI”.
Most of you wouldn’t have heard about them, even though
they are famous, for their music style is quite different
from the everyday pop music you listen to. Their music
has a mixed style which includes punk rock, alternative
rock, electronica, techno, industrial, hip hop, and
breakbeat hardcore. It was an original intention to mash
up together as many music genres as possible. Although
their songs include swearing, it is not the goal to insult
people, but rather to express themselves with stronger
words. The band got together in 1997. * They also played
with other bands like “Linkin Park”, “My Chemical
Romance”, “Korn” and “Insane Clown Posse”. During an
interview, they said: “we feel the hatred and we
encourage it. We don't want a bored audience.” These are
the members: *
The band’s leader, James Euringer, more commonly
know as Jimmy Urine. To get that stage name, * he took
three letters out from his last name. The only person who
called him “Jimmy” was his mother, and he found that
funny. He did the lead vocals, synthesizer, and
programming. He led the band for nearly 17 years. He is
currently 51 years old. When he was interviewed in 2012,
he was 42 years old. He said that he had always wanted
to be a stuntman and was hoping to become one before
he hit 50 years, because that would be too old. He never
got the chance. * He is married to Chantal Claret, who is
the lead singer of the band “Morningwood”. She is now 38
years old. * In 2019 they had twin girls, Georgia and
Isadora. Next: Markus Euringer, Jimmy’s brother. He
played the bass but left in 1998. * He was replaced by
Vanessa Y.T. who left the band, on good terms, in 2001.
Urine used to say that she left to become an astronaut,
but then finally revealed that she was starting a family
and could no longer be a part of the band. The band has
currently lost contact with her. Some sources say that
even the band doesn’t know Vanessa’s real last name,
and the information is impossible to find on the internet. *
She was replaced by Lindsey Ann May, called Lyn-Z for
short. A lot of people preferred Vanessa, but they still love
Lyn-Z. She is known for doing stunts while playing. Lyn-Z
got her role as Vanessa Y.T.’s replacement by lying about
playing bass to a bouncer at a club, and was later
approached at one of her art shows with an offer to
audition for MSI. She knew she wouldn’t make it playing
bass alone, so during a part in her audition where the bass
drops out, she pulled a film canister of Bacardi out of her
bra, and matchsticks out of her pigtails, and spat fire. She
almost caught Jimmy on fire, and secured her role in the
band. She is now 44 years old. * Jennifer Dunn, more
commonly known as Kitty, played the drums since the
beginning of the band. She is Jimmy’s cousin. Kitty only
joined MSI as a temporary member because Jimmy
booked a live show without a real band, but she did so
well he kept her on. This was after not having had played
drums for years, because someone accidentally sold off
her drum kit when she was in school. She is 41 years old.
* Steven Montano did the backing vocals. He was called
Steve, Righ? because a drunk person came up to him and
asked, slurring, “you’re Steve, righ?”
* MSI hate all their fans. They are a band that defies
explanation.
Between 1987 and 1996, Jimmy Urine recorded about
35 songs which varied in musical style, usually settling in
an industrial/electronic punk style. These songs were
recorded alone by Urine in New York City using
rudimentary equipment. Shortly after, the current band
was formed when Jimmy Urine was joined by Steve, Righ?
on guitar, Urine's brother Markus Euringer on second
guitar, and Urine's cousin Kitty on the drums. According to
the band’s website, their first live concert was on
November 5th, 1998. Later in January 2014, the band
announced that they would be taking a hiatus. *
On September 18, 2015, Mindless Self Indulgence
released “Pink”, a collection of 19 songs recorded
between 1990 and 1997 by Urine. They are still on break,
but it is very unlikely that they are going to come back to
the music industry. All in all, they released 5 albums, two
extended plays, one live album and one live DVD. Out of
their songs, my personal favorites are * : Never Wanted to
Dance; Shut Me Up; It Gets Worse; Molly (also called
“Tighter”); Lights Out, and Straight to Video. They are my
favorite band. Here’s an etymology of the band’s name:
self-indulgence is the act of allowing yourself to have or
do anything that you enjoy, so basically the band’s name
means ‘giving yourself anything you want without thinking
about it’.
