Seriously, Cinderella is so Annoying!

Lesson Plan

This is a five day lesson for the book Seriously, Cinderella is so Annoying! by Trisha Speed Shaskan designed for
small group reading instruction in 2nd and 3rd grade.

Day 30 – 40 minute lesson

1. Ask “Who is Cinderella?” – quick discussion to see what students know


Monday 2. Students partner read story
3. Discuss vocab – wicked, mansion, valet, waltzed, seamstress
4. Locate vocab in story and reread sentences

1. Quick review of vocab/defintions with sort – in pairs or individually


Tuesday 2. Reread (partner or whisper)
3. Have students retell the story
4. Discuss “Glossary” words (pg. 23) character, narrator, point of view, version

1. Reread (partner or whisper)


Wednesday 2. Discuss point of view of this story and how point of view changes with narrator
3. Complete point of view matrix – teacher records answers for group

1. Quick review of point of view


Thursday 2. Either read a classic version of Cinderella (teacher read aloud) or discuss events of
classic Cinderella story and generate a list of events (teacher records list)
3. Complete organizer to compare and contrast the two versions of Cinderella

Friday 2. Writing prompt: Which version of Cinderella is more correct? Explain your point of
view.
3. Allow students to discuss their point of view with group members
