Unit I
Principles of Merchandising : roles and responsibilities, different type of merchandisers, qualities
required for different type of merchandisers: - Retail merchandising - Production/Merchandising
exports - Marketing merchandising - Marketing fashion merchandisers - Product fashion
manufacturing merchandising - Production merchandiser Seasonal calendars and TNA for
merchandiser, TNA
Unit II
Sampling : Types of samples and their significance, Approvals – Pattern approvals ,fabric approvals
(FPT), trims approval ,sample approvals, tagged samples and their significance, sealer samples and
their significance, constituents of a techpack, approvals of samples and patterns - fabrics (FPT),
garment (GPT), trims, embroidery, washing, finishing and packaging, reading and developing a
techpack, constituents of a techpack : Understanding need of SMS(salesman samples), counter
approval sample,Redseals samples.
Unit III
Costing : definition, consumption of fabric, thread and other trims, buffer calculation, SMV & SAM
calculation, FOB, C&F, CIF and Franco pricing, making and trim cost [CMT cost]
Unit IV
Essential tests : different tests like colour fastness, strength, stretch, construction, performance,
water resistance, ultraviolet transmittance, trims tests etc., different standard protocols of testing,
national and international testing institutions
Unit V
Pre-production follow up : record maintenance, arranging of TAM (Technical Analysis Meeting) and
PPM (Pre-Production Meeting), demonstration of packaging, production and shipment follow up
Buyer communication : all types of communication with buyer on reporting, price negotiation,
sampling, approvals of samples, fabrics, production and manufacturing, quality, shipment etc.
Unit VI
Vendor management : sourcing strategies, sourcing of raw material, vendor selection, compliance,
KPI of vendors capacity planning, technical ability of product & category.
Export - import documentation : Bill of Materials, certificate of origin, letter of credit, Bill of
Landing, list of packaging, custom invoice,shipping bills,AWB
