Assessment Task: Learning Target Task

Purpose of this Assessment:

This task is designed to help you develop a clear understanding of how to


create effective learning targets a crucial skill for future
educators. As teachers, you will be responsible for setting learning objectives that
guide your students toward meaningful learning experiences. This activity will allow
you to:

✔ Apply what you have learned about learning targets in a real-world context.
✔ Strengthen your ability to create clear, measurable, and meaningful objectives
for any subject.
✔ Develop critical thinking skills by aligning instruction, assessment, and student
learning outcomes.
✔ Prepare yourself for lesson planning, a fundamental aspect of being an effective
teacher.

This is not meant to be a burden or punishment, but rather an opportunity to


enhance your teaching skills and ensure that your future students benefit from well-
structured lessons.

Instructions:

Lesson Selection

1. Choose any subject or topic that interests you.


2. Ensure that the lesson can be completed within a day or a week, based on a
realistic teaching schedule.

Formulating Learning Targets

1. Develop five (5) specific learning targets for your chosen lesson.
2. Each learning target must begin with "I can..." and must align with the following
types:

1. Knowledge – Understanding facts, concepts, or definitions.


2. Reasoning – Applying logical thinking and analysis.
3. Skills – Demonstrating a particular ability or action.
4. Product – Creating something tangible based on learning.
5. Affective/Disposition – Reflecting values, attitudes, or ethical
considerations.

1. Complete the task using the tabular format below.

This is not about making the task difficult but about


preparing you for real classroom teaching where
you will need to design learning targets regularly. If
