Assessment Task: Formulating Learning Targets for a

Lesson

As future educators, it is essential to develop clear and measurable learning targets


that align with instructional goals. This task will help you apply your
understanding of learning targets by creating specific objectives for a chosen
lesson from our syllabus.

Instructions:

Lesson Selection

1. Choose one lesson from our syllabus that interests you.


2. Ensure that the lesson can be completed within a day or a week, based on the
schedule provided.

Formulating Learning Targets

1. Develop five (5) specific learning targets for your chosen lesson.
2. Each learning target must begin with "I can..." and fall under one of the following
types:

1. Knowledge – Understanding facts, concepts, or definitions.


2. Reasoning – Applying logical thinking and analysis.
3. Skills – Demonstrating a particular ability or action.
4. Product – Creating something tangible based on learning.
5. Affective/Disposition – Reflecting values, attitudes, or ethical
considerations.

Organization of Your Work

1. Present your learning targets in a structured table format, following this example:

Justification

1. After listing your learning targets, write a short explanation (5-7 sentences)
discussing:

1. Why you chose this specific lesson.


2. How your learning targets align with the lesson’s goals.
3. How these targets can help future students understand the topic better.

 Answer the following questions in at least five (5) sentences each:


1. How do well-structured learning targets contribute to effective teaching and
assessment?
2. What challenges did you face in formulating learning targets, and how did you
overcome them?
3. As a future educator, how will you ensure that your learning targets are clear,
measurable, and meaningful?
4. If students fail to achieve a specific learning target, what strategies can a teacher
use to support them?
5. .How can learning targets be used to improve student engagement and motivation
in the classroom?

 Your work must be handwritten on a long bond paper.


 Write neatly and legibly.
 Avoid erasures and use a blue or black pen.
