ABOUT THE VILLAGE

 Nawarmari located in Nagpur district of Maharashtra, India. It


details the village's population, social structure, infrastructure,
education facilities, water quality, and work being done by
the NGO NBSS to improve the village. Key points include that
the village has 86 families and a population of 405, with STs
making up 46.91% of residents. Facilities include an
anganwadi, primary school, and electricity though power
cuts are common. Water quality testing showed the village
well water is safe. NBSS is focusing on improving drinking water
access, sanitation, livelihoods, and education in the village
through various initiatives like developing solar power.
INTRODUCTION

 Nawarmari - a small size village located in Nagpur Rural


Taluka of Nagpur district Total 86 families residing.*
 As per constitution of India and Panchayati Raj Act,
Nawarmari village is administrated by Sarpanch (Head
of Village) who is an elected representative of a village.
 The village which comes under Mangrud Panchayat*
 The nearest town is Dongargaon.

 * The village has a homogenous population of Hindu.
 The social group composition of village Nawarmari is
divided amongst
 Schedule Tribes (ST)
 Schedule Castes (SC)
 > Other Backward Caste (OBC).
 Hierarchy based class structure is not very visible.
 In Nawarmari village, most of the village population is from
Schedule Tribe (ST), constituting around 46.91% while
Schedule Caste (SC) were 15.31% of total population in
Nawarmari village.
EMPLOYMENT PROFILE

 Out of total population:


 145 were engaged in work activities.
 38.62% of workers describe their work as main work.
 (Employability >6 Months)61.38% were involved in Marginal activity.
 (<6 months)Of 145 workers engaged in Main Work, 28 were
cultivators (owner or co-owner) while 0 were Agricultural labourer.
EDUCATION SCENARIO

 Anganwadi:
 The village has facility of Anganwadi for children of age 3-6 years
with around 30 students.Mid-day meal scheme has been
implemented successfully.
 Anganwadi has a single room allotted for all the 30 students.
 No electric supply due to non-availability of funds at the village
panchayat.
 The Anganwadi provides special meals for pregnant women as well.
EDUCATION SCENARIO
 Primary School:
 There is a provision of primary school till 5th class where
students are taught basic subjects like Marathi, Hindi,
English and Maths.
 Students are made well versed with basic
environmental sciences, Geography and History
 Students who want to pursue higher education i.e.,
above 5th standard either go to high schools at
Dongargaon or Local high schools at Nagpur.
 While the midday meal for Anganwadi is monotonous,
Primary school meal is more diverse and well-structured,
Students of both schools DO NOT eattogether
 .Toilets not available for Anganwadi students. Only girls'

INFRASTRUCTURE

 Roads: The village is connected through a Tar Road.


Inside the village road are both Kuchha and Pucca.
 * Electricity: Most of the households are electrified.
However, electricity is not available for most of the
time.*
 Drainage: Drainage is a problem in the village
because there is lack of drainage line on both side
of roads, even road is Kaccha on some
places.Communication.
 No landline facility. Mobile phone network is
adequate. The village has network connectivity of
BSNL, IDEA & Airtel.
VILLAGE PROBLEMS
 Unable to avail sanitation facilities
 According to villagers every house is equipped with the government toilets
but due to lack of water supply only few people manage to use them.
 Even if the water is available, people avoid using toilets due to their
orthodox mentality.*
 Improper drainage sometimes causes clashes among neighbours.*
 Water Scarcity:
 Not all people have regular supply of water and the government.sources
of water are controlled by few people
 Women have to carry water in 'handis (6-8 litres) from a nearby.well which
is troublesome.
 Abrupt Power CutoffSeasonal Employment:
 Majority of youth go on daily wages labourWomen is mostly engaged in
household work and labourers.
 Girls' Education:
 Due to so much of travelling girls usually get discouraged for higher
education
FUTURE WORKS

 Solar street lighting:


 In Collaboration with Niramaya Bahu Uddeshiya
Seva Sansthan and our alumni, we are trying to
install solar panels for the already available poles
in village.
 30 poles are available, where we could install
solar panels Further, we will try to install these
solar street lights throughout the village if
sufficient funds are available.
 There are 40 such electric street lights in the
village where solar panels could be installed to
save electricity.
