L1

C1 L1 C1 C1 Lp Rp
RS

(a) (b) (c)

In Fig. (a), an inductor L1 placed in parallel with a capacitor C1 resonates at a
frequency ω𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑜 = √𝐿1 𝐶1 . In practice, inductors suffer from resistive
components as shown in Fig. (b), and Rs affects the resonant frequency. Because
of this fact, LC circuit is generally analyzed using parallel RLC circuit as shown
in Fig. (c). In Fig. (c), the serial connection of L1 and RS is replaced by the parallel
connection of Lp and RS.
(a) Find Lp represented by L1 and RS. (15 points)
(Assume the operating frequency is ω rad/s)

(b) Find Rp represented by L1 and RS. (Assume 𝐿1 ≈ 𝐿𝑝 ) (5 points)

RC circuit

(a) (b)
In practice, the capacitor has a leakage current, and it causes a voltage drop. So,
an additional current should be provided to keep Vout regardless of Ileakage. In Fig.
(a), Vout(0)=0.5V, and SW1 starts an operation at t = 0.
(a) Find C1 which can keep Vout. (Assume R1=1kΩ) (10 points)
(Hint: Think about Superposition)
Student number: Name:

(b) Find minimum and maximum voltages of Vout with derived C1 in (a).
(10 points)
