In the tapestry of time, experience threads the design.
Although I am at the beginning of my professional journey, my
upbringing and the STCTI together with the professors that I have
encountered has instilled in me the importance of becoming a
full–fledge leader. I have actively sought opportunities to
develop these values by gaining a profound understanding about
how a school leader should act. In the near future, I have
already strategized how I will leverage power in a future
leadership position. Analyzing the leadership style that I will
going to apply, A good leader is a good catalyst and adherent,
that’s why I am fond of the approaches transformational and
servant leadership. Envisioning myself as a future leader, I must
acquire a strong grasp of the following:
◘ The art of motivation (Strategic Driver)
◘ Guided Inflation (Strategic Development)
◘ The Forge of Self-Reflection (Strategic Refinement)
These three elements are not isolated but interconnected.
Self-reflection informs the art of motivation, allowing leaders
to refine their strategies based on observed outcomes and
feedback. Guided inflation provides the context for motivation,
as individuals are more likely to be motivated when they are
given opportunities to grow and develop. This holistic approach
creates a powerful synergy, driving individual and organizational
success.
Evaluating my strength and areas for improvement, for instance
I encounter such situation. Leading the science fair amidst
budget cuts and dwindling participation challenged my initial
organizational strengths. Facing these pressures, I shifted to a
more transformational and servant leadership approach, empowering
student committees and incorporating their feedback. This
collaborative, student-centric approach revitalized interest,
leading to a successful fair. Moving forward, I will prioritize
stronger student-faculty relationships, proactive perspective-
seeking, and a culture of collaborative innovation for future
events. Recognizing that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, I
believe open communication and diverse perspective are essential
for optimal solutions. Before starting my leadership plan, I’ll
gather feedback via anonymous surveys, one-on-ones, and a team
meetings feedback session. This will focus on communication,
problem-solving, delegation, and conflict resolution. For
instance, feedback might highlight strengths in communication but
suggest improvements in “big picture” thinking and conflict
resolution avoidance. This feedback will directly shape my
development plan, prioritizing training and mentorship in key
areas, and serve as a baseline for measuring progress.
Based on the feedback gathered, here are two specific,
actionable, measurable, and time-bound leadership development
goals:
1. Strategic Communication and Delegation: implement framework
or checklist within 1 month.
Target: +20% communication feedback in 3 months, +15% team
autonomy in 6 months.
2. Conflict Resolution: complete training, engage mentor
within 2 months.
Target: -50% escalated conflicts in 6 months, +10% team
climate in 9 months.
To achieve my leadership goals, I’ll implement a three-phased
growth plan focused on learning, application, and refinement,
with built-in measures for progress and continuous improvement:
● Phase 1(months 1-2): Research communication
framework/delegation best practices, begin conflict resolution
training research.
● Phase 2 (months 3-6): Implement framework/checklist, actively
practice conflict resolution skills, seek mentor feedback.
● Phase 3 (months 7-9): Evaluate/refine communication or
delegation approaches, deepen conflict resolution skill, explore
mediation.
Progress:
● Communication/Delegation: Quarterly feedback surveys, monthly
observation of team proactiveness, quarterly project completion
rates.
● Conflict Resolution: Monthly escalated conflict count,
quarterly team climate surveys, ongoing mentor/team feedback.
Continuous improvement will be driven by weekly self-
reflection, regular feedback loops with team and mentor, ongoing
learning through various resources, and consistent mentorship.
This leadership exercise reinforced the importance of
strategic communication, empowering delegation, proactive
conflict resolution, and continuous improvement. I’ll integrate
these into my academic and professional life by prioritizing
clear communication plans, utilizing delegation frameworks,
actively practicing conflict resolution skills, and maintaining
habits of self-reflection, feedback, and learning. Specifically,
I will create a personal leadership development plan, seek
mentorship, join development communities, and journal regularly.
