for developing future IT. As a business increasingly rely on technology to promote growth

and innovation, the demand for the skilled IT experts continues to rise. Internships are

becoming a mandatory part of IT education. IT students at Bestlink College of the

Philippines (BCP) have the chance to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world

situations through internships, which helps them get ready for the demands and obstacles

of the working world.

It examines the value of internships for BCP's IT students, emphasizing how these

experiences contribute to the development of the technical know-how, problem-solving

skills, and other qualities that will help them succeed in their future employment. This

study looks at how the internships fit into the academic plans and professional goals of IT

students.

Theoretical Framework

This chapter presents the related literature and related studies that are relevant to

the study.

Relevant Theories

David Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (2024, February 2). implies that the

process of learning is the turning of experience into knowledge. Kolb divides this learning

process into four stages:

• Concrete Experience (CE) – Direct involvement in an activity, such as an IT

internship.

• Reflective Observation (RO) – Reflecting on the experience and analyzing it.

• Abstract Conceptualization (AC) – Drawing conclusions from the experience and

understanding the theoretical basis behind the practical experience.

• Active Experimentation (AE) – Applying what has been learned to future

situations, leading to further experiential learning.

Kolb's learning cycle illustrates how students can gain information and abilities by

participating in practical experiences, thinking critically about their results, and then using

what they've learned in novel settings. This makes it especially pertinent to internships,

where students get hands-on experience using their IT abilities in business settings, gain

knowledge from those experiences, and utilize that knowledge to further their education

and future employment.

4

Bestlink College of the Philippines

The researcher believes that the Experiential Learning Theory holds great relevance

for BCP IT students who are engaged in internship programs. It clarifies how practical

work experience enhances students' entire learning process. Through internships, students

gain practical experience with IT issues, engage in reflective observation, abstract

conceptualization, and concrete experience connecting experiences to academic ideas.

Ultimately, they apply these insights to advance their professional conduct and technical

proficiency (Active Experimentation).

The aforementioned theories genuinely lead the researchers to believe that a

practical work experience improves the learning process for students as a whole. Students

gain knowledge from these experiences, apply that knowledge to advance their education

and future careers, and get hands-on experience using their IT skills in business settings.

Hypothesis

There is no significant relationship between IT internship and Career Readiness.

Solution

• Provide the student with most up-to-date tools and technologies so that they can
really acquire relevant technical skills.
• Schools and companies should coach the students on how to write resumes that
show their internship work or job experience in a way that would show the
employer that they have the capacity for an extended period of useful work.

• Internships must be well-designed with clear tasks and proper mentorship in a

benevolent environment to make the students feel more competent to do the job in
real field.

• Maybe the others are yes, but because not everyone has the same learning capacity,
maybe there is something they didn’t learn or didn’t learn enough from being an
intern, so we thought that this is one of the problems that can be a problem for those
who intern.

Definition of terms.

For a better understanding of this study, the following terms are further defined

either operationally or conceptually:

Internship - A planned course that provides students with real-world professional

experience in an atmosphere that is usually related to their topic of study. IT

students commonly work in the technology department of companies during their

internships, completing duties that hone their technical and problem-solving

abilities.

Skill Development - the method by which students, especially in the field of

information technology, acquire new skills and improve their current competencies.

This development happens in the classroom as well as via hands-on learning

opportunities like internships.

Career Readiness - The level at which students are prepared to enter the

workforce, equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experiences to

perform effectively in a professional environment. This readiness is often shaped

by both academic learning and internships.

Exploring the role of IT Internship

From the study of Rayed Alghamdi (2019). This internship is the only requirement

in the current IT curriculum that attempts to build a bridge of connection for students. A

solid bridge is expected to maximize the confidence of students in regard to discovering

their future career opportunities in the Saudi Arabian market.

Due to Technology is greatly development more of the industry have a specific and

specialize skill that the future employee to be working in their company. Therefore, the IT

internship is truly important.

Also, Patricia Wallace (2007). Students gain valuable work experience while the

college utilizes student employees to assist with their scheduling gaps. Students benefit by

using skills gained in the course and on the job to enhance their employment credentials.

By experiencing hands on work on the college it will greatly benefit the student for

using their skills to enhance and use for the future capabilities in the internship.

According to Indrajit Kumer Das of Stamford University Bangladesh (2017). I

have learned during the internship. I have faced some problem and successfully overcome.

during my internship I have gather some knowledge about office weather, communicate

with clients, discipline, punctuality etc. I have learned HTML CSS and made some simple

website.

Experiencing the hands-on work for developing basic website can enhance and gain

knowledge of making a basic and simple website that can help you in the future.

From the journals of Nahid Ekram of Stamford University Bangladesh, (2017). The

technologies I investigated were at various stages of development: Some are available

today, but others are one to two years away from being commercially available.

On the other hand, according to Donald A Carpenter (2003) competing with larger

and more-established companies in metropolitan areas, often has resulted in a blurring of

the distinction between internships and part-time jobs. Hence, the nature of the internship

loses its meaning to employer, intern and school.

Traditionally, internships have been viewed as educational opportunities where

students or recent graduates can obtain real-world experience and practical skills in a

particular profession, frequently for free or at a reduced cost, in exchange for their

knowledge. The idea of an internship is fading since it's evolving from a learning

opportunity to a means of obtaining inexpensive labor.

Synthesis:

In a BSIT course, internship is one of the requirements in the modern curriculum,

which means in this era students who experience the work of IT are having an advantage

compared to others. And students who gain valuable experience while taking the IT course

are having a benefit and such an enhanced skill for their employment credentials.

In an internship, not only skills can be learned; you will learn how to discipline,

have clear communication, etc. The internship in recent years cannot be the same in the

future because technology is upgrading, while technology is upgrading the internship can

be upgraded to. Part-time jobs are different from internships; internships are more

important than that because during a during an internship you have time to explore for what

kind of future job.

study aims to understand where IT education might need improvement to better

prepare students for real-world industry needs.

According to Jake Vincent R. Casugay, Willfred F. Cabautan. Jeanely A. Esperanza

& Marie Ann fontanilla (2024) the partner-company organization is related to the student’s

specialization as they utilized IT-based software and assigned tasks related to information

technology. Student trainees were able to develop their communication skills while mobile

application development skills were identified as the least. The researchers concluded that

the BSIT Internship manual when implemented can effectively improve their field work

performance

It emphasizes the importance of aligning internships with a student’s area of study,

highlights areas where skills can be improved, and supports the use of a structured

internship manual to boost student performance.

From the study of Neil Basabe & Sheryl Estella & Heubert Ferolino & Gian Carlo

Cataraja (2023). there is a significant degree of variance among the Curricular Structures,

Skills and Competencies on the relevance of the BSIT program to their employability.

It shows that the way BSIT programs are designed can significantly affect

graduates' readiness for employment in the IT internship, and that improvements in the

curriculum could enhance their chances of finding relevant jobs.

From the study of Joseph V Elarde (2012) Providing internships for Information

Technology students represents a significant issue to institutions of higher education

located in rural areas where few if any organizations exist with sufficient resources to

support such programs within a manageable transportation distance.

The difficulty rural educational institutions face in providing IT internships due to

the lack of nearby organizations with the resources to support these programs, making it

harder for students to gain relevant industry experience.

According to Agatha Filinia & Generosa Lukhayu Pritalia (2019) an internship is

mandatory for graduation. The program is designed to enable students to apply their

classroom knowledge to real-life work situations with real work projects mentored by

professionals. The program’s goal is to increase students’ adaptability in a real-life work

setting, hence preparing them for work after graduation.

The internship program is seen as a vital bridge between academic learning and

professional work, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the workforce by giving

them hands-on experience and the opportunity to work under professional mentorship.

Synthesis:

the internship is used to become readiness for their future job. It uses the experiences of

the student doing their perspective future job. An internship is a program that measures

IT students’ skills. It also helps to improve their skills for their future job. Internships

depend on their specialization to enhance and improve their skills in IT fields. An

internship is mandatory for all courses, not only in information technology (IT), because

it helps all to apply what they learn in the internship to get ready for the professions that

as integrated internship data management features. The results of this research show that

the development of a student internship information system using the Laravel framework

can provide convenience in registering and reporting internship results for students, as well

as help institutions in managing internship data. It is hoped that with the existence of this

student internship information system, it can be a solution to simplify and accelerate the

internship process and management for students and participating institutions.

Internship Monitoring and Supervising Web-Based System (2017)

The developed system includes one of the objectives of the proposed system which is to

create a medium that eases the communication between the students and the University on

processing their internship documents. Despite the similarity, the system was built to
