IGCSE Checkpoint English Study Plan

For High Performers

(Goal: Refinement & Mastery – Focus on high-level analysis, time management, and
precision.)

Week 1-2: Intensive Analysis & Refinement

• Reading & Comprehension:

o Practice inference-based questions from past papers.

o Summarise complex texts in precise points.

o Identify key literary devices in unseen texts.

o Focus on nuanced interpretations and alternative perspectives.

• Writing:

o Craft high-level descriptive and narrative essays with advanced vocabulary.

o Work on engaging introductions and compelling conclusions.

o Review sentence variety and stylistic devices for impact.

o Peer-review essays and give constructive feedback.

• Grammar & Vocabulary:

o Use complex sentence structures naturally.

o Implement high-level vocabulary in writing and speech.

Week 3-4: Timed Practices & Mock Assessments

• Timed Practice:

o Complete full-length past papers under exam conditions.

o Practice structuring answers within strict time limits.

o Self-evaluate using mark schemes and examiner reports.

• Advanced Writing Tasks:

o Revise argumentation in discursive essays.

o Focus on logical progression in writing.

Week 5: Final Review & Confidence Building

Evidence, Explain).

o Review common literary devices and their effects.

• Writing:

o Work on structuring paragraphs using the PEEL method (Point, Evidence,


Explanation, Link).

o Improve sentence structure and clarity.

o Focus on simple but effective vocabulary.

• Grammar & Vocabulary:

o Revise common grammar mistakes.

o Learn 5-7 new high-frequency words weekly and use them in writing.

Week 3-4: Structured Practice & Time Management

• Timed Writing Practice:

o Complete partial past papers focusing on structuring responses.

o Work on completing sections within the allocated time.

• Writing Drills:

o Write short responses focusing on coherence and organisation.

o Revise sentence connectors for fluency.

Week 5: Mock Exam & Feedback Improvement

• Full-Length Practice Paper:

o Attempt a past paper under exam conditions.
