INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE ATTACHMENT GUIDE
INTRODUCTION
As a national training policy, all students taking courses under the Technical Education Programme for
examination by the Kenya National Examination Council have to undergo industrial work experience
attachment before taking final examinations. For Craft Certificates and Diploma and Higher Diploma level
courses, a minimum of three months is required. It is recommended that the attachment should be taken in
two equal phases but this is just the ideal situation.

OBJECTIVES

The purpose of industrial Work Experience programme is to try as much as possible to make the training
relevant to the job requirements in industry. It is hoped that this could be achieved through the following:

I) Exposing students to industrial/ business work culture through the actual involvement in real
work situation.
II) Providing opportunities for students to apply skills acquired through formal instructions in real
situations.
III) Exposing students to technologies which are not available to them in the Institute.
IV) Building confidence in the students in technical operations and problem solving by working with
professionals in the world of work.

SUPERVISION7

Supervision of industrial attachment is carried out by lecturers from Regional Institute Of Business
Management.

They visit students from time to time and hold discussion with the employers on students’ performance at
least once during attachment period.

NB//;

The final grade of industrial attachment will be worked out at college and will form part of the final
continuous assessments to be submitted to KNEC for certification.
