Resilience- Speech
Imagine having a life where you achieve your goal, statistics show that only 20 percent of
the population set goals for themselves and about 70 percent of them do not achieve them. It may
be due to a variety of reasons, for example financial reasons or personal reasons, but most people
fail at their goal because they lack resilience and dedication or just motivation.
One of the main reasons that we are not able to achieve our goal is that we are lacking
motivation, a reason to accomplish our goal. Most people do things for a reason, and it is no
different with setting goals for yourselves, you always have a reason for setting yourself that goal
and the reason for that goal will decide if you are able to accomplish the goal or not. Statistics
show that people can work at least 20% better if they are motivated.
We’re always lacking action when we set goals for ourselves, for example, we come up
with goals during Newyear, and we just forget about them a few weeks later, because we’re
lacking resilience, and people usually overestimate their own resilience. In 2020, there was a poll
and 83 percent of Americans thought they had high levels of mental and emotional resilience
when only about 50% of people were resilient. You might ask why this is important. Studies
show that people who are resilient can overcome hardship and they are less likely to get
overwhelmed by things.
One of the most effective ways to stay resilient and achieve your goals is to have
someone else to help you and put pressure on you for your goals. For example, when I was

small, I started playing piano, it was stressful and boring sometimes and I always wanted to give
up, but my parents put pressure on me, and I continued playing the piano. Now I've been playing
piano for about 7 years and I'm preparing for my grade 10 RCM exam. The person that is going
to help you achieve your goals can be your friends, parents, teachers or just anyone you think can
make you dedicated to that goal. There are also studies shown that you’re more likely to keep a
commitment you make to your friend than one you make just for yourself.
Having the trait of not giving up easily can also benefit you in the future, for example,
when you’re at university you’re going to need resilience and dedication to study hard every day
and get good grades, but some people developed the trait of resilience but became stubborn. For
example, sometimes you know your goal is unrealistic, but you still put a lot of effort into it
If we can make ourselves resilient and start aiming for your goals, we would be
successful and achieve things you want in the future, as Tribal Wisdom of the Indigenous Peoples of
Australia once said “Those who lose dreaming are lost” keep dreaming and make your drea nn m come
true.
