1. Who sponsored the Rizal Bill in the Congress? What are their arguments in
support of the bill?
-Senator Claro M. Recto of the Philippine Congress was the proponent of the Rizal Bill, sometimes
referred to as Republic Act No. 1425. The legislation was signed into effect on June 12, 1956. Its main
goal was to make it mandatory for all public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the
Philippines to teach about national hero Dr. Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings. Studying Rizal's life and
works, according to Recto and other bill supporters, would help young Filipinos develop a sense of
identity, nationalism, and patriotism. They thought that by teaching Filipino kids about Rizal's beliefs and
self-sacrificing ways, they would be motivated to make constructive contributions to their nation and
society.
4. In your own words, discuss the significant of the Rizal Law to the present
time.
-The Rizal Law's lasting influence on Filipino education and national identity makes it extremely relevant
in the modern period. Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings are required to be studied, and this is a key
component in promoting Filipino nationalism and cultural pride. The legislation encourages pupils to be
historically aware and to think critically by having them study Rizal's support for social justice and
independence from colonial oppression. Additionally, it emphasizes the significance of moral principles
and a respect for diversity, which support the growth of responsible citizenship and social cohesiveness.
The ideals upheld by Rizal hold true in the face of changing times, underscoring the Rizal Law's ongoing
importance and relevance in fostering an inclusive, progressive, and just society.

LP 2- ASSESSMENT
1. Discuss Jose Rizal’s memories of his early childhood base on your own
idea.
a. His Town-Jose Rizal feels a sense of nostalgia and kinship when thinking back on his early years spent
at Calamba, Laguna. He remembers his hometown's beautiful scenery, active community, and friendly
people with nostalgia. But his recollections also highlight the brutal reality of social inequality and
colonial oppression, which fueled his zeal for social change and national independence. Rizal's
examination of identity, memory, and the intricacies of Filipino society is framed by his memories of
Calamba.
b. His Family-Jose Rizal's early childhood recollections are centered on his family, specifically his parents,
siblings, and the close family ties that molded his upbringing. He remembers the loving atmosphere of
his Calamba family home, where he received support, affection, and encouragement for his academic
endeavors. The foundation for Rizal's future accomplishments was laid by his parents, Francisco and
Teodora Alonso, who instilled in him a strong sense of values, education, and patriotism. His siblings
gave the family companionship and opportunities for shared experiences, which strengthened the
family's bond. Through his memories, Rizal emphasizes the critical influence his family had on the
development of his personality, goals, and commitment to the principles of justice and freedom.
2. Of all the members of Jose Rizal’s family, who do you think had been the most influential to his life?
Explain why.
-Teodora Alonso and Francisco Mercado, Jose Rizal's parents, had a significant impact on how he lived.
But if I had to pick only one, I would say that his mother Teodora Alonso had the biggest influence on
him. In addition to being a devoted and encouraging mother, Teodora Alonso was a learned and
forward-thinking individual who had a significant impact on Rizal's moral and intellectual growth. She
taught him to read and write before he even started formal schooling, which helped to foster his passion
of learning and literature from an early age. Teodora encouraged Rizal to achieve scholastic success and
to apply his knowledge for the benefit of society by instilling in him a strong sense of morals, discipline,
and social conscience.
3. How was value for good education manifested in the life of Jose Rizal?
-Jose Rizal's life was a shining example of the importance of a quality education, as seen by his
unwavering pursuit of academic brilliance, his support of educational reforms, and his commitment to
educating his fellow Filipinos. Rizal's parents laid the groundwork for his lifelong dedication to study by
instilling in him a strong love of learning at an early age. Rizal proved his intelligence by doing well in a
variety of courses and languages, winning multiple academic honors. Advocating for improvements in
the Philippine educational system and actively participating in projects to promote literacy and
enlightenment among his compatriots, he acknowledged education as a potent tool for empowerment
and emancipation. Rizal aimed to enlighten and motivate his fellow Filipinos by means of his literary and
intellectual legacies, especially his novels "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterism," instilling in them a
feeling of national identity and the pressing need for social reform. All things considered, Rizal's life
serves as an example of how education can change people and societies.
4. What can you say about Jose Rizal’s relationship with his parents and siblings?
-Along with his siblings, Jose Rizal shared a love and close relationship with his parents, Francisco
Mercado and Teodora Alonso. Rizal's attitude, morals, and aspirations were significantly shaped by his
parents. His mother Teodora, a learned and forward-thinking individual, fostered his passion of learning
at an early age and gave him a solid educational foundation. Francisco, Rizal's father, taught him the
values of honesty, decency, and civic duty. They all pushed Rizal to achieve academic success and apply
his knowledge to advance society. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, Rizal's siblings offered
him companionship, encouragement, and shared experiences, which forged a close tie between them.

The Rizal siblings persevered and stayed strong in the face of adversity, including financial difficulties
and societal prejudice. Rizal's identity and ideals were greatly influenced by the unity and solidarity that
their close family relationships fostered.
All things considered, Jose Rizal had a loving, respectful relationship with his parents and siblings, and
they all shared a dedication to social justice, education, and the growth of the Filipino people. They had
a significant and long-lasting impact on Rizal's life, influencing his outlook and direction as a student,
author, and nationalist.
5. Give some examples of virtues that were exemplified in the life of Rizal
-Several virtues exemplified in the life of Jose Rizal based on his relationship with his family and
childhood include: Resilience: Growing up amidst social discrimination and economic hardships, Rizal
and his family exhibited resilience in the face of adversity. Despite the obstacles they encountered, they
remained steadfast in their pursuit of education, personal growth, and social justice. Unity and

LP 3- ASSESSMENT
1. Why did Jose Rizal used the surname Rizal when he enrolled at Ateneo?
- To escape discrimination, Jose Rizal assumed the surname "Rizal" instead of his original surname
"Mercado" when he enrolled in the Ateneo Municipal de Manila. In the Philippines at the time, racial
prejudice was pervasive, so Rizal took on a new surname in an attempt to protect his family from
prejudice and persecution. "Rizal" was also an homage to Calamba, the hometown of his forefathers,
which got its name from the "Rizal" shrub that was native to the region and grew in profusion. His
identity as "Jose Rizal," a name that would eventually come to be associated with Philippine nationalism
and independence, began with this choice.
2. Do you think using the surname Rizal in his studies helped him in his search for greater knowledge?
Why do you say so?
-Jose Rizal's pursuit for knowledge was probably influenced, if not directly, by his use of the surname
"Rizal" while he was studying. Rizal was able to devote himself entirely to his academic endeavors by
taking on a surname that protected him from prejudice and prevented him from having to deal with it
while he studied. An atmosphere that was favorable to intellectual development and inquiry would have
been produced by this sense of safety and belonging.
3. Why was Rizal not admitted at Ateneo the first time he enrolled there?
-Due to an event concerning his mixed race, Jose Rizal was not allowed to the Ateneo Municipal de
Manila the first time he tried to enroll there. Rizal was first turned down for admission because he was
not of Spanish descent at that time. Because Rizal was of mixed Chinese and indigenous Filipino
ancestry, the Jesuit priests who oversaw the Ateneo were known to favor students of Spanish descent.
Teodora Alonso, Rizal's highly educated mother, persisted and made an appeal to the authorities,
though, and eventually Rizal was accepted into the Ateneo after passing an entrance exam, proving his
potential and academic prowess in spite of the initial bias against him.
-Given the variety of circumstances and viewpoints involved, it is challenging to conclude with certainty
whether Jose Rizal's initial admission would have resulted in a loss for Ateneo. On the one hand, Rizal's
admission in Ateneo gave him access to a formal education, which surely aided in his intellectual
growth. His education at Ateneo widened his knowledge base, developed his critical thinking abilities,
and exposed him to prominent peers and mentors who probably had an impact on his perspective. In
the end, it's difficult to say if Rizal's admission to Ateneo was a mistake or not, even though there's no
denying that he gained a lot from his time there. Nonetheless, he made indisputable contributions to
Philippine society as a writer, scholar, and national hero, and future generations of Filipinos are still
motivated by his legacy.
5. Compare and contrast Rizal as a student and the students of today. Write your answers in the
diagram below.

LP 5- ASSESSMENT
1. What were the distinctive character traits of the women Rizal had fallen in love with? If you choose,
who would you consider? Why?
-Throughout his life, Jose Rizal had romantic relationships with a number of women, each of whom had
unique qualities. Leonor Rivera was one famous woman he fell in love with. It was said of Leonor that
she was sophisticated, clever, and incredibly loyal to Rizal. Throughout their long-distance relationship,
she encouraged him emotionally and supported his goals and academic endeavors. They corresponded
frequently. Josephine Bracken was a notable woman in Rizal's life. Despite their difficulties as a married,
Josephine was renowned for her bravery, devotion, and dedication to Rizal. She supported Rizal
throughout his exile in Dapitan, where they grew close and connected on a deep emotional level. Leonor
Rivera is the woman I would pick if I had to choose. Leonor is an appealing option because of her
knowledge, cultural sophistication, and unwavering support for Rizal's initiatives. They had a long-lasting
romance that persevered through hardships including separation and misfortune. Furthermore, Leonor's
impact on Rizal's life and work—especially in his early years—highlights the importance of her to his
intellectual and personal growth.
2. What made Josephine Bracken different from the other women that Rizal had loved?
-Josephine Bracken's nationality, meeting circumstances, shared adversity, and eventual marriage to
Rizal set her apart from the other women in Rizal's life. While each of Rizal's romantic relationships was
unique and significant in its own right, Josephine Bracken's role in Rizal's life was particularly notable
due to their shared experiences and enduring commitment to each other.
3. What were some of the qualities of Rizal as a lover that make him different from other young men of
today? Why do you say so?
-Jose Rizal stood out from many young men of today because of his qualities as a lover, which included
his depth of intelligence, romanticism, dedication, respect for women, and courage. Sincerity, passion,
and honesty defined his approach to love, and he left a lasting legacy that still arouses romantic ideas
and desires.
4. What sacrifice did Josephine made for being the wife of a hero?
-Josephine Bracken's sacrifices as the wife of a hero were profound and enduring, demonstrating her
love, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity. Her unwavering support for Rizal's cause and her
willingness to endure hardship and persecution alongside him make her a significant figure in Philippine
history and a symbol of selfless devotion.
-The degree of reciprocity between Jose Rizal and Josephine Bracken's love is a topic of historical
interpretation and controversy. The nature and depth of Rizal's relationship with Josephine remain
somewhat ambiguous, despite evidence to the contrary. Some contend that Rizal's marriage to
Josephine was primarily a pragmatic decision made out of compassion and a desire to provide her
support and legal protection in the wake of his impending execution. Others argue that Rizal's affections
for Josephine were sincere and real, pointing to the closeness of their correspondence and their shared
emotional connection as proof of their love. Historians continue to examine and discuss the intricacies
of the romantic connection between Rizal and Josephine, but the true nature of their relationship is still
up for interpretation. Even though there is evidence that suggests Rizal loved Josephine, it is unclear
how much of his affection was returned by her.

LP 6 PART 1- ASSESSMENT
1. What do you think was the reason Rizal wrote the original Noli Me Tangere in Spanish, the language
of the colonizers?
-Jose Rizal wrote the original "Noli Me Tangere" in Spanish to reach a diverse audience, engage with the
colonial system, amplify the voices of the Filipino people, and challenge the injustices of Spanish colonial
rule in the Philippines.
-Indeed, "Noli Me Tangere" is critical of the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church during the Spanish
colonial era in the Philippines, as well as the oppressive structures of colonialism. As such, it can be read
as both anti-clerical and anti-patriotic. Jose Rizal exposes the abuses of authority among clergy members
by exposing examples of moral degradation, exploitation, and hypocrisy through vivid characterizations
and narrative portrayals. Father Damaso and Father Salvi are two examples of unscrupulous clergy
members who exploit their position of power for personal benefit and add to the suffering of the Filipino
people. The book also depicts the social inequities, exploitation, and prejudice that the Filipino people
endured as a result of Spanish colonial control. "Noli Me Tangere" exposes these problems, opposing
heedless submission to authority and promoting equality, social justice, and national freedom; hence, it
is anti-clerical in its denunciation of institutional corruption and anti-patriotic in its defiance of colonial
oppression.
-I prefer Elias. Elias represents the marginalized and oppressed sectors of society. As a native Filipino
driven to seek justice for his family and community, Elias embodies resilience, resourcefulness, and a
willingness to fight against injustice, even though radical means if necessary. He symbolizes the voice of
the oppressed and the spirit of resistance against colonial oppression.
