RRL

The Review of Related Literature (RRL) is essential in research, providing a systematic examination of existing literature to contextualize current studies and identify knowledge gaps. It involves ethical writing standards, formulation of conceptual frameworks, and the development of skills such as literature selection and synthesis. A good literature review establishes relevance, identifies research gaps, and justifies methodology while utilizing higher-order thinking skills.

The Review of Related Literature (RRL) in research is a critical component

that involves the systematic examination and synthesis of existing literature

relevant to a specific research topic. It provides a comprehensive overview of
prior studies, theories, and findings, helping to contextualize the current
research and identify gaps in knowledge.

It will also involve the following :

Ethical standards in writing related literature

Formulation of conceptual framework

Research hypothesis

Definition of terms as used in the study.

Skills to be developed:

Selecting relevant literature

Citing related literature using APA format

Synthesizing information from relevant literature

Writing coherent review of related literature

Observing ethical standards in writing related literature

Illustrating and explaining conceptual framework.

WHAT IS A GOOD LITERATURE REVIEW?

A good Literature review must be:

1. An academic text that provides an overview of a particular topic.

2. It helps to identify known and not known subject of the study.
3. It involves the use of Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) such as
Review, Evaluation, and Synthesis of several scholarly works (journal
articles, professional books, online sources, and specialized
references).
Functions of Related Literature

1. It establishes the relevance of the study.

2. It further helps in establishing research gap that the study intends to fill.

3. It provide important information about your topic and the concepts related
to it.

4. It presents contradictions between and among previous literature.

5. Justifies your research methodology based on previous studies relevant to

your research; and

6. Presents and discusses your theoretical and conceptual frameworks which

are the backbone of your study.

Importance of RRL

*Understand the topic

*Avoid duplication

Validate methodology

*Support research designs

*Establish significance
