I. LEARNING COMPETENCY

At the end of this lesson, you are able to:


A. Define salary, wage, income and benefit (ABM_BM11SW-IIc-1)
B. Compute gross and net earnings (ABM_BM11SW-IId-2)
C. Differentiate gross from net income. (ABM_BM11SW-IId-3

II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES


At the end of the period, the learners shall have been able to:
A. Differentiate salary, wage and income and understand that certain factors like education affect the amount
a person earns.
B. Solve problems related to piece-rate earners and hourly-rate earners including overtime pay;
C. Enumerate and define the different benefits given to an employee
D. Compute for overtime pay on (A regular day, Special day, Rest day, Regular holiday, and Rest day which falls
on a regular holiday; and
E. Realize that income can contribute to well-being of a person, their family and the community.

Topic: SALARIES AND WAGES
Reference: Business mathematics for grade 11 abm salaries and wages
Materials: ppt presentation, calculator, marker
IV. PROCEDURE A. Preparatory Activities:
A. Prayer, Greetings, Checking Attendance, Unfreezer
B. Review of the Past Lesson
1. Who can tell me what you understood about our lesson last meeting?
C. Motivation:
The teacher will ask the following questions to the students:

1. Can you give me an example of a job you know nowadays?


2. How are doctors being compensated?
3. How about teachers and other government employees? Engineers? Lawyers? Tricycle Drivers? Construction
workers?

D. Presentation of the Lesson:


1. What do you think our lesson is about?
E. Presentation of Learning Objectives:
1. Learners read the learning objectives for the day’s lesson.
F. Discussion:
1. The teacher let the student define salaries and wages in their own understanding.
2. The teacher will show you how to calculate the salaries and wages.
3. The teacher ask the students the solve for salaries and wages?
G. Generalization:
1. What is the use of salaries and wages?
2. Why do we need to know about salaries and wages?
H. Application:
1. The teacher divides the class into 5 groups.
2. Each student gets a card with a number.
3. The students work together to solve the problem.
4. After solving the problem, students must rearrange themselves based on the answer they have.
5. Each group is only given 3 minutes to solve the problem.

Instructions: Define what is being asked about the following problems. Provide your complete solution.
1. How much is the annual gross income of a police officer who gets a basic salary of Php49,528.00 per month, a
living allowance of Php2,000.00 per month, a clothing allowance of Php200.00 per month, a regular
subsistence allowance of Php4,500.00 per month, and a hazard pay of Php540.00 per month?
2. A university professor has a basic monthly salary of Php80,000.00, a living allowance of Php2,000.00 per
month, and has an investment of Php300,000.00 which earns an interest of 5% per year. Compute his annual
gross income.
