Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
Hadith 01:
a) The hadith summaries all aspects of faith and to act upon it sincerely is
to fulfil all the obligations of religion and Life. Islam is based on sincerity
and this faith can only be strengthened if one is sincere to his beliefs.
This hadith declares that sincerity should be shown to Allah who is the
sole creator of the universe and sincerity can only be shown if one
follows His commands. The hadith talks about unity of Muslim ummah
which can be maintained only if the leaders are respected and obeyed.
The Quran says in this matter

“O! who you believe, obey Allah and obey His messenger and those
charged with authority amongst you”

b) Acting on this hadith, Muslims should perform all the obligations of

Islam such as prayer, zakat, fasting and Hajj in a manner that one’s
intention is to seek Allah’s pleasure and not show off. Muslims should
respect every member of the society even the strangers like the Holy
Prophet (pbuh) used to do. Only then will a Muslim be able to maintain a
good society as mentioned in the Quran and in the hadith.

Hadith 02:
a) The concern for the well-being of others is the basic teaching of this
hadith and is an important aspect of faith. Care for others is a sign of
sincere belief and that belief is only sincere when one puts it into action.
A part of the Muslim faith is to work for the good of others as the holy
prophet (PBUH) has said:
“You can not enter paradise unless you are believers and you can not
be true believers unless there is a mutual love between you”

This hadith therefore indicates the concept of understanding and respecting

others equally.

b) Muslims should always respond to the needs of others. Care for others is
the basic part of faith. For which Muslims will be awarded. By following
this hadith, we should always be sympathetic towards the less fortunate,
we should always understand their pain and try to be as much helpful as
we can. This will not only be in accordance with the holy Prophet (PBUH)
teachings, for example when he created brotherhood between the
Muhajjireen of Makkah the Ansar of Medina, but will also create a

society where people will be selfless and will be away from greed and
ego.

Hadith 03:
a) The hadith teaches us to choose our words in speech carefully as the gift
of speech is the blessing of Allah and should be used for good only. The
Prophet said:
“To keep silent is better than telling a bad thing”
Moreover, This hadith teaches the Muslims ummah to perform acts of
kindness towards the guests and the neighbors. it orders us to be
generous and hospitable and emphasizes upon the importance of the
right of others and our duties towards them. Thus, this hadith links
goodness in speech to faith by referring to it as a duty for every Muslim
who believe in Allah and the hereafter.

b) The hadith commands the Muslim ummah to be generous and kind

towards the guest and neighbors. The ummah must refrain from talk or
any conversation which may offend others. i.e. they should neither use
abusive language nor indulge in backbiting etc. They should be kind and
considerate to their neighbor e.g. By avoiding playing loud music and
taking care of them in any way possible. Similarly, guests should be
welcomed whole heartedly and be served generously. Such acts will help
to create a polite and civilized society which the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
has ordered.

Hadith 04:
a) The hadith very clearly outlines the basic requirements of being a good
muslim. The hadith shows us that Allah does not burden mankind, with
things that are impossible and that it is very easy to gain Allah’s
pleasure. The importance of prayer and fasting are highlighted here as
pillars of Islam. Similarly, Allah has laid down clear rules about things
that are lawful and unlawful, and He expects the muslims to live
accordingly. It is by following these principles that paradise can be
obtained as promised by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Not only these but
other pillars of Islam like Hajj, fasting and Zakat are equally important to
attain paradise.

b) Muslims should always be obedient towards God by following the pillars

of Islam like prayers and fasting so that they can be blessed with

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 3
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
paradise. However, they should also be very careful about the difference
in Halal and Haram. E.g. they must avoid alcohol, gambling and Ribba
(Interest) based transactions as such actions are strongly forbidden in
Islam. Muslims should live their lives by following the straight path
shown by Allah through the Holy Quran and the sunnah of the Holy
Prophet (PBUH). If they do this, they will surely be successful in the
hereafter.

Hadith 05:
a) This hadith highlights the importance of good deeds no matter how
great or small. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has labeled these acts as
charity. Thus, these are such acts of generosity and good will that
maintain unity in an Islamic society. Therefore, this hadith teaches us
various ways to help our brothers through every action possible and
through good intentions.

b) The Muslim Ummah should mold their lives according to the teachings
contained in this hadith. The muslims should attend to the sick, help the
blind to cross the road and protect the children from every harm.
Similarly, if there are conflicts, a muslim is required to extend his help to
end the conflict. Such acts will be blessed by Allah and will help to create
a pious society.

Hadith 06:
a) This hadith explains some of the duties of an individual in an Islamic
society. Islam has made the duty of every muslim to eradicate evil from
the society using the necessary methods. Those who can check it with
force must do so while those who check it through preaching and
persuasion should try to do so in their own way. This hadith very clearly
and forcefully clarifies the moral obligations that muslim have, to
promote good and forbid evil as they Holy Prophet (PBUH) has clearly
associated lack of action in such matters with weak faith.

b) This hadith tells muslims to fight against evil. It tells us to stand against
tyranny and injustice and to stop the one who is committing a bad deed.
Once a companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) asked him:

“O messenger of Allah, we can help a man to whom wrong has been done,
but how can we help him when he himself does wrong“

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 4
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied:

“Take hold of his hand doing wrong”

Thus, this hadith commands us to eradicate evil from the society with our
strength and energy.

Hadith 07:
a) This hadith defines what makes a believer best amongst others. The
believer struggles in the way of Allah with himself and his wealth. The
holy Quran says
“and whatsoever of you spend of anything in (Allah’s cause) He will
replace it“
This struggle establishes a society based on the right moral principles of
justice and piety as laid down in Islam. One who spends in the way of Allah
will be rewarded as well as the one who fights in the way of Allah, both will
be given the best reward.

b) Muslims should follow this hadith by sacrificing their time, money and
even Life in the way of Allah for example: a true believer rises before
fajar to offer tahajjud prayers or sit in the itekaf in the month of
Ramadan or even finances the hajj of the less fortunate believers, they
are all performing jihad. Similarly, when a Muslim is required to use his
wealth to establish a society based on good principles, he should do so.
This will be in accordance to the teachings of the holy Prophet and his
examples, and also the examples of his companions who were always
ready to strive for Islam with their wealth and their lives.

Hadith 08:
a) This hadith teaches us the true meaning of being or called a martyr and
hence clarifies the concept of jihad. It is a common belief that the one
who dies in the battlefield is a martyr. Further this hadith broadens the
definition of a martyr and mentions more categories of martyr. It
teaches us that those who strive in the way of Allah with the intention of
pleasing Him and with the intention of good deeds like; charity, fasting
and following Allah’s commands, die in such a state whether via disease
or in a battlefield are all regarded as martyrs.

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 5
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
b) The hadith commands the Muslim Ummah to struggle in the way of
Allah and perform good deeds in order to achieve the status of a martyr.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:
“whoever sincerely desires the rank of martyrdom get the rank of
martyrdom ever if he is not killed”

This hadith directs us to perform sincere actions and follow the commands of
Allah for example prayers, fasting, zakat and Hajj with the intention of pleasing
our Lord If we wish to attain the status of a martyr in the hereafter.

Hadith 09:
a) The following Hadith explains the fact that lawful earning is held at a
‘great merit in Islam’ and it had been considered next to the
performance of obligations of the religion. The holy Prophet (PBUH)
said:
“to earn a clean living is also a duty next to the obligatory duties “

Lawful earning always paves the path for decent actions to take place.
On the contrary all unlawful earnings lead towards evil actions such as
bribery, theft, gambling etc.

b) Muslims should act accordingly upon the teachings of this hadith by

spending the entire day working hard,
“and earning his living by the sweat of his brow”
Once the holy Prophet (PBUH)’s companion inquired about an income
that was better and cleaner, he replied:
“The one who works with his hands and does every trade with
honesty”
Islam strongly condemned unlawful earnings as they lead towards hell
and punishment in the hereafter.

Hadith 10:
a) This hadith teaches the importance of the rights of fellow beings. It
teaches us that apart from performing the obligatory duties in the way
of Allah such as jihad, fasting and prayer, Muslims are also required to
be good to other Muslims. The helping of a poor man and taking care of
the affairs of a widow have been mentioned in this hadith at par with
Jihad and other obligations. It is made clear that worship is not restricted
as to prayer and fasting only but covers every good deed as the Holy

Quran says:

“therefore treat not the orphan with oppression and refuse not the
beggar”

b) This hadith commands us to do good towards our fellow Muslims and it

provides us a direction to start from. Such as taking care of those who
are poor or widowed. Such acts of charity and kindness go on to earn
Allah’s pleasure. If Muslims look after the less fortunate ones, then their
reward will be equivalent to those who practice the pillars of Islam or
fight in Allah’s way.

Hadith 11:
a) The hadith teaches us that Muslims can go to paradise with the holy
Prophet (PBUH) If they do good. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) particularly
recommended the good deed of looking after the orphan. The mention
of the two fingers symbolizes the close proximity with the holy Prophet
(PBUH) in paradise. In another hadith the holy Prophet (PBUH) regarded
that house is the best where an orphan is treated with kindness and the
holy Prophet (PBUH) declared the worst home is the one in which an
orphan is not treated with affection. Therefore, as an orphan himself the
holy Prophet (PBUH) recommend the Muslims to care for the orphans.

b) The teaching of the hadith encourages Muslims to care for the orphans
and other vulnerable people for example: we can ensure to provide
finance for the orphans to take care of their needs i.e. for buying food
etc. Similarly, we should donate generously towards the orphanages and
adopt orphan children or to at least look after them. In this way we will
follow the teachings of holy Prophet (PBUH) and therefore will be
rewarded. Such step will also increase care, cooperation and a positive
feeling within the members of the society.

Hadith 12:
a) The teachings of this hadith are that Muslims rulers must always be
gentle to others and always cause rejoicing when they rule. Muslims
must also act fairly when they govern. This hadith focuses upon the
Muslims leadership and urges them to be always helpful to those who
they lead and that they should never enforce their opinion but rather

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 7
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
encourage it. The holy Prophet (PBUH) has quoted the best rulers were
those who were loved by other people and those who loved their
people. So Muslim rulers should always be polite and affectionate
towards their subjects.

b) Muslims can put the teachings of this hadith into action by being gentle
towards others and by making them rejoice due to their actions towards
them e.g. a leader should motivate his people rather than to discourage
them. A Muslim government should also be fair in its actions. E.g. it
should not be corrupt and should care for the welfare of its people and
so people can live comfortably under their rule. Such actions will reduce
aggression and promote welfare in the society

Hadith 13:
a) The Muslims believe that the learning and understanding of the
teachings of the Quran are very important as by tending to camels, one
not only keeps a hold of them but also obtains benefit from them,
similarly by reading the holy Quran regularly Muslims hold onto the rope
of Allah and practice being good, thus earning the pleasure of Allah. The
holy Prophet (PBUH) has stressed upon the reciting and teaching the
holy Quran in the following words;
“The best amongst you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it”

b) Muslims can put the teaching of this hadith into actions by reciting the
holy Quran regularly. They can learn duas from it or can become the
Hafiz-e-Quran i.e. the one who memorizes it completely. Muslim should
not only learn the holy Quran in Arabic but also strive to understand its
meanings. They should also try to teach the holy Quran to those who do
not know it. This will help to create a righteous Society which will be
following the straight path shown by Allah in the holy Quran and also
eventually be blessed in both the worlds.

Hadith 14:
a) This hadith teaches that Muslims should be fair and kind in all their trade
dealings. They should be honest and fair in all aspects of trade whether
buying or selling. Allah Will look favorably towards a man who deals with
others fairly and kindly in all that he does. Leniency should be shown to

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 8
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
the person who has borrowed money and is unable to pay it back. As the
holy Prophet (PBUH) has said:
“if the debtor is in difficulty, Grant him time till it is easy for him to
repay”

b) The Muslims should always be honest in trade dealings. They should not
sell substandard things and likewise when they buy something, there
must be a fair price and not take advantages of the seller’s situation. If
something is returned, there must be genuine reason or if something is
faulty Muslims should be fair in giving a refund. The holy Prophet (PBUH)
himself was a trader and he earned the respect of Hazrat Khadija
because of his honesty when she encouraged him to conduct her
business. Similarly, if we give a loan to the needy, we should be as
flexible as possible in demanding its return. If we are aware of his
difficulties, then we should give him enough time to return the loan.

Hadith 15:
a) Mercy and kindness are integral to islam. A Muslims conduct
towards others influences his treatment by God. Muslims must
treat others as they would want Allah to treat them. The Holy
Quran says:
‘Let them pardon & forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive
you?’
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has preached mercifulness on another occasion
by saying:
‘Be Kind to those who are on earth, the one who is in the heavens will
be kind to you’

b) God will show mercy to those who practice it. Muslims should
always be aware of God’s forgiving nature and put this belief into
practice in their own lives. E.g. we should always be ready to
forgive the mistakes of our friends, co-workers and our servants. In
case of any problems, instead of being harsh & aggressive towards
others, we should be patient & tolerant. This will be in accordance
to the example of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) when he forgave his
worst enemies after the conquest of Mecca.

Hadith 16:

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 9
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
a) This hadith teaches us about Muslims belief in brotherhood. It teaches
Muslims about the community relations and how they should feel and
act towards other believers. Just as the head is the command center to
humans, similarly brotherhood is essential to all Muslims. Muslims are
joined together in brotherhood by their common faith. And it is when
they stop caring about the pain and suffering of others, then this unity
and brotherhood gets broken. The holy Quran stresses upon the
importance of fraternity among the Muslims when it says:

“ the believers are but a single brotherhood”

b) Muslim should always try to be aware of the suffering of others around

him. Be it their family, community or other Muslims around the world.
This principle was put into practice by the holy Prophet (PBUH) when he
declared the ansar and Muhajjireen as brothers. This brotherhood is
being practiced by the Muslims all over the world when they support
their oppressed Muslims brothers in Palestine, Kashmir and Burma.
Similarly, it is also practiced by Muslims in case of natural disasters e.g.
when in 2005 Pakistan was hit by an earthquake; the international
community helped them by creating an excellent example of
brotherhood.

Hadith 17:
a) The hadith emphasize modesty as being the key to good conduct which
prevents a person from wrong doings. Modesty develops a person’s
character and leads him towards integrity, thus a modest person will
always strive to do his best in all that he undertakes. Modesty also
encourages humility, simplicity, decency, forgiveness and etc. Therefore,
it is strongly linked to faith, as it is the state of mental peace. The holy
Prophet (PBUH) has said;

“Modesty is from faith and faith is in paradise. Indecency is from evil and
evil is in fire”

This hadith therefore shows us the importance of modesty as the basis

of being successful in the hereafter.

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 10
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
b) Modesty must be practiced in all actions of a Muslim e.g. lowering his
gaze in the presence of an opposite gender which protects him against
immorality. Self-control or modesty should be adopted so that it
becomes a part of the individual’s mental attitude. Only then can piety
be achieved. Muslims should think of others before themselves like the
Holy Prophet (PBUH) who was the perfect example of modesty e.g. he
forgave his worst enemies after the conquest of Makkah. Therefore,
concern for others that springs from modesty eliminates many social
evils which not only earns the modest person the respect of others but
also establishes a decent society.

Hadith 18:
a) Muslims must have faith in their heart and even a believer who has the
least amount of faith will be taken out of hell after being punished for
his worldly misconduct. The holy Quran condemns it as it says;

“and walk not on Earth with conceit and arrogance “

Humility is a quality which is liked by Allah whereas arrogance is associated

with the devil. This hadith therefore tells us that it is important to
differentiate between faith and pride and that Muslims must accept to
show that they are both opposite characteristics.

b) The holy Prophet (PBUH) life provides us with the best examples in light
of this hadith to follow. He was humble to the extent that during the
conquest of Mecca as he along with his army entered Makka his head
was bend down in humility. Engrossed in praise of Allah. Following his
footsteps and acting upon this hadith we should strengthen our faith
and avoid showing pride in our behavior despite our achievements.

Hadith 19:
a) A prison is a confined place where a person lives temporarily, and he has
to abide by its laws. He is not free to do as he pleases. Similarly, this
world is a temporary place for a believer and his ultimate goal is
paradise. The holy Prophet (PBUH) has said:
“Live in this world as a stranger order of way farer”

BY AFFAN A. SIDDIQI 11
Islamiat Paper#2: Hadith for Special Study
This means that one’s life is a passage through this world and the real
destination is heaven. On the other hand, for the unbeliever this life is
everything, as he does not believe in the Life after death. He lives in this
world without any concept of accountability and hence indulges in sins
and the gratification of his desires. This is why world is his paradise.

b) Muslims should always remember Allah and pray to Him. By

remembering Allah at all times, they can go about their daily lives
without deviating from the path preferred by Allah. Muslims sometimes
get so engrossed in this world that they may forget about being
answerable to Allah, whereas those who remember Allah will strive to
do good and treat this world as a temporary place. There is an afterlife
far better than what this world has to offer and Muslims should strive to
attain success in it.

Hadith 20:
a) The main objective of a Muslim’s life is to achieve the pleasure of His
Lord. Allah is not interested in a person’s wealth, status etc. But He is
interested in what is in his heart and what is reflected through his
actions. This means that no virtue will be accepted without sincerity.
Worldly possessions, power and wealth or a high social status will never
impress Allah or attain his pleasure as the holy Quran says:
“verily the most honored in the sight of Allah is he who is the most pious
of you”

A true Muslim is therefore known by his pure conduct and not by his
outward appearance and this is the criterion of their faith.

b) Muslims must act upon this hadith and the verse of the holy Quran
“whether you hide that is in your heart or reveal it, Allah knows it
all….”

Therefore it is clear that Allah is all knowing and can see whatever
intention is within our hearts, so actions should be performed with the
purest intentions, which would merit in front of Allah thus by acting
upon this hadith, hypocrisy from the society will be eradicated.
