PART A

1) Four Characteristics of a Computer

1. Speed – Computers process data much faster than humans.

2. Accuracy – Computers provide accurate results without errors, unless the input
data is incorrect.

3. Automation – Once programmed, a computer can execute tasks automatically

without human intervention.

4. Versatility – Computers can perform different types of tasks, from calculations to

multimedia processing.

2) Categorization of Computers According to Type

• Supercomputers

• Mainframe Computers

• Minicomputers

• Microcomputers (Personal Computers - PC, Laptops, Tablets, etc.)

3) Difference Between Data and Information with Examples

• Data: Raw facts and figures without meaning. Example: "80, 90, 85"

• Information: Processed data that makes sense. Example: "John scored 80 in Math,
90 in Science, and 85 in English."

4) Steps to Calculate 49,581 × 637 Using Napier’s Bone

1. Write down the multiplicand (49,581) on top.

2. Use Napier’s bones to break down each digit into multiplication tables.

3. Multiply each digit of the multiplicand by each digit of the multiplier (637).

4. Write down intermediate results and add them column-wise.

5. Sum up all the partial products to get the final answer.

5) What is a Computer Network?

A computer network is a collection of computers and devices connected to share

resources, data, and communication. It can be wired (using cables) or wireless (Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth).
6) Five Mechanisms to Prevent Malware Infections

1. Install and update antivirus software.

2. Avoid clicking on unknown email attachments or links.

3. Use strong and regularly updated passwords.

4. Keep software and operating systems updated.

5. Enable firewall protection.

7) Categorization of Hardware Devices

• Input Devices (e.g., Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner)

• Processing Devices (e.g., CPU, GPU)

• Storage Devices (e.g., Hard Drive, SSD, USB)

• Output Devices (e.g., Monitor, Printer, Speaker)

• Communication Devices (e.g., Modem, Network Card)

8) Three Devices That Perform Both Input and Output Operations

1. Touchscreen

2. External Hard Drive

3. All-in-One Printer (Scanner + Printer)
