The feature scope description provides a high-level list of the features that are available with SAP Analytics
Cloud.
SAP Analytics Cloud is an all-in-one cloud product offered as software as a service (SaaS) for business
intelligence (BI), planning, and predictive analytics. Built natively on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP
BTP), it provides a unified and secure public cloud experience to maximize data-driven decision making.
Note
This document defines the functional scope of SAP Analytics Cloud. The availability of some of the features
in this document may depend on your license agreement with SAP and the cloud platform that you are
using, which SAP offers as either SAP BTP, Neo environment, or SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment.
If your SAP Analytics Cloud system is hosted in a data center located within China, some features that
depend on data or services outside China may not be available. To illustrate integration with other SAP
offerings, the product documentation on the SAP Help Portal might include references to features that
aren’t included with SAP Analytics Cloud.

2.1 Stories
A story is a presentation-style document that uses charts, visualizations, text, and images to describe data.
The following sections highlight the most prominent story features available in SAP Analytics Cloud.
The optimized story experience includes the optimized view mode and the optimized design experience. It
combines elements from SAP Analytics Cloud stories and analytic applications.
Here is an overview of core features related to charts, tables, and maps in Stories:
Feature Description
Responsive Pages Lets you create responsive lanes to section page content
into groups so that you can easily access your stories on
your mobile device. By default, a responsive page starts with
two lanes.
Canvas Pages Lets you explore and present your data in a flexible space.
You can add charts, tables, visualizations, text, images, and
other objects to canvas pages in your story.
Grid Pages Lets you create and work with formulas on a sheet, either
with a table that has been generated from existing data or
without a table.
Geo Map Lets you add layers showing location-based data, geographic
features, and points of interest in a geo enriched model for a
geospatial analysis.

Objects Lets you display content in your stories. You can add objects
such as clocks, RSS feeds, and embedded web pages to

Background Images Lets you select images to use as a background for respon-

Here is an overview of core features at the story and page level in Stories:
Feature Description
Story and Page Filters Lets you narrow the scope of your analysis. Filters are ena-
bled after you have added at least one chart to your story.
You can convert between story and page filters.
Bookmarking Story Views Lets you save different states of a story. You can even create
global bookmarks so that anyone who can view the story can
also see the different views.
Optimized View Mode Lets you see an improvement in your dashboard perform-
ance (in some scenarios).
Optimized Design Experience Provides a better story design experience with the introduc-
tion of several usability improvements. Story designers will
have the ability to create new stories in the Optimized Design
Experience or convert existing stories.
Story Templates Lets you build a story when you are struggling with where to
start. You can choose from a variety of story layouts depend-
ing on the story you want to create.
View Time Toolbar Lets you easily navigate to the most commonly used func-
tions for faster access. You can also navigate to all other
available functions that are logically grouped together.
Value driver trees are an analysis process tool that helps with planning scenarios, such as budgeting and
forecasting in planning models.
Here is an overview of value driver trees features available in SAP Analytics Cloud:
Feature Description
Adding and Linking Nodes Lets you add nodes with different measures, filters, and cal-
culations, and create hierarchical links between them.
Auto-creating Value Driver Trees Lets you automatically add nodes to a value driver tree
based on the account structure of your model.
Entering Data Lets you change node values using a keypad to simulate
changes in driver values.
Collapsing and Expanding Nodes Lets you hide or expand node descendants to simplify the
value driver tree.
Story Features
Feature Description
Scheduling Publication Lets you schedule and deliver a PDF copy of a story using
e-mail. PowerPoint presentation (.pptx format) is now sup-
ported as a file type while scheduling a story.
Linking Story Variables Lets you set a variable value once and propagate the value to
other variables from multiple models.
Data Action Starters Lets you run data actions in stories. You can use a data ac-
tion to model sequences of copy-and-paste operations and
scripted calculations.
Value Driver Trees Lets you visualize the relationship between drivers and KPIs
by adding model data and calculations to nodes and then
linking them in a directed graph.
Link Dimensions across Multiple Models Lets you join a primary data source with secondary data
sources that contain common linked dimensions.
R Visualization Lets you add R visualizations to a story when you use R with
SAP Analytics Cloud.
Input Controls Lets you add flexibility to your story pages by enabling the
story consumer to apply filters, set calculation parameter, or
select dimension, measures, or cross calculations to be used
in one or multiple visualizations on a story page.
Comment and Collaborate Lets you add comments, discuss with other users, and share
stories. Comments can also be added to tables and charts.
Features Integration Capability Lets you integrate other features from SAP Analytics Cloud
to enhance your stories.

Custom Web Fonts Lets you use custom web fonts anywhere fonts are configu-
rable.
Custom Current Date Lets you create restricted measures with dynamic time
range filters based on a custom current date.
Font Resize in Device Preview Lets you change the font scaling of an entire story for each
individual device size.
Calendar Integration Lets you access your calendar when you’re reviewing a story
that’s part of a calendar task.
Customized URLs Lets you customize your URL when sharing content.
Custom Hierarchies or Groups Lets you define custom hierarchies on BW dimensions, al-
lowing you to organize members of different dimension
groups. You can use these hierarchies in charts, tables, input
controls and filters.
Custom Sort for Dimension Members Lets you custom sort dimension members in tables, visuali-
zations and Explorer.
Feature Description
Linked Analysis Drilling Lets you change the hierarchy of multiple charts through
Linked Analysis, as long as the charts are on the same hier-
archy and level as the driver chart.
Unrestricted Drilling Lets you drill to any level in the hierarchy, no matter what the
filter or date granularity is set to. This option is only available
for date range filters in charts and tables.
Multi-Dimensional Sorting Lets you sort charts by two or more dimensions either alpha-
betically or in a custom configuration with semantic mean-
ing.
Here is an overview of additional features that are available in stories in the optimized story experience:

Additional Widgets Lets you use a wide range of components for the following
functions:
Composites Lets you create and use a combination of widgets with pre-
configured data, scripting elements and custom logic, and
reuse in stories for various purposes.
Custom Widgets Lets you build and use your own widgets in addition to
the predefined set of widgets delivered with SAP Analytics
Cloud.
Custom Add-Ons Lets you build and use your own widget add-ons in addition
to the predefined set of widget add-ons delivered with SAP
Analytics Cloud.
Assets Panel Lets you drag and drop available built-in widgets, custom
widgets and composites to story pages to build your story.
Outline Panel Lets you view and manage the structure of your story, in-
cluding its pages, widgets and scripting elements.
Copy and paste Lets you copy and paste widgets, scripting elements and pa-
ges across optimized stories or in the same optimized story
at design time, either in the same browser tab or across
browser tabs. Copy and paste items between composites
and optimized stories is also supported.
Linked Widgets Diagram Lets you have a graphic view of and modify the relationships
among the widgets in your story.
Theme Lets you define the style of the story in an efficient and
reusable way.
CSS Class Lets you define multiple CSS class styles either as global
default or per widget.
Data Change Insights Lets you keep notified of significant data changes of specific
charts on a regular basis.
Performance Insights Lets you analyze and optimize the story performance with
loading sequence and time of different processes during
story loading, story statistics, and recommendations availa-
ble.
Video Data Story Lets you create customized short videos based on selected
widgets in your story.
Here’s an overview of the core features for scripting in Optimized Story Experience:
Feature Description
Scripting API Lets you design highly customized, interactive stories by us-
ing API scripts.
Script Editor Lets you write scripts for each widget and thus create inter-
active and highly custom-defined stories.
Scripting Support Lets you create stories more efficiently using entities such
as:
• Script objects
• Global variables
• Automated refactoring
• Pattern-based functions
OData Lets you create an OData service, define the endpoint URL,
and perform a transactional action at the backend by using
scripts.
Embedding Business Applications Lets you leverage the post message APIs to enable message
communication between host and embedded web pages
when you embed an story in a host HTML page or embed
a web page in a story through the web page widget.
Reference List Lets you quickly check out where and how an element (such
as a widget), script variable, or a popup function is used.
Error Panel Lets you view all the errors and warnings in the story and
quickly locate the errors in your scripts.
Debug Mode Lets you set automatic breakpoints to pause a script while
it’s running, thus helping you find errors in your scripts.
With SAP Analytics Cloud, analytics designer, you can create analytic applications for data analysis and data
planning. In analytic applications, you can configure the behavior of the UI elements with a set of specific script
API events and specify which actions should take place when events are initiated.
The following sections highlight the core Analytic Application features available in SAP Analytics Cloud.

Create Analytic Applications Lets you build a data-driven analytic application. You can vis-
ualize your data, pick a model, add widgets and add custom
logic to your analytic application.
Widgets Lets you use a wide range of components for the following
functions:
Custom Widgets Lets you build and use your own widgets in addition to
the predefined set of widgets delivered with SAP Analytics
Cloud, analytics designer.
Linked Widgets Diagram Lets you have a graphic view of and modify the relationships
among the widgets in your analytic application.
Bookmark Lets you capture and save the current state of an analytic
application.
Theme Lets you define the style of the application in an efficient and
reusable way.
Planning Applications Lets you create and use planning applications that support
both manual and automated data entry and changes to data.
Smart Capabilities Lets you explore your data via a variety of smart capabilities
including:
Managing Analytic Applications Lets you create a new analytic application from the applica-
tions page. You can modify, copy, translate and share your
applications.
Export Options Lets you export the visible components of your applications
to PDF. R visualizations are disabled during export.
Scheduling Publication Lets you schedule analytic applications and distribute PDFs
to SAP Analytics Cloud users or non-SAP Analytics Cloud
users at application runtime or from the file repository.
Integration with SAP Datasphere Lets you build analytic applications by leveraging SAP
Analytics Cloud, analytics designer within SAP Datasphere
spaces.
Mobile Browser Support Lets you view your analytic applications in embed mode
directly in web browser. Currently only Safari on iPads is
supported.
Mobile App Support Lets you view your analytic applications in SAP Analytics
Cloud iOS or Android mobile app.
Copy and Paste Between Story and Analytic Application Lets you copy the widgets from a story to an analytic appli-
cation, or application to application at design time within the
same web browser page or across different web browser pa-
ges. Thus, you can enhance stories with analytic application
capabilities by copying widgets and add scripting, events or
other capabilities to cover your business scenarios.
CSS Class Lets you define multiple CSS class styles either as global
default or per widget.
View Time Toolbar Lets you easily navigate to analytic application viewer spe-
cific actions and also to planning viewer specific ones such
as publishing data, allocation, and version management for
faster access.

In SAP Analytcs Cloud you can start ad-hoc analyses with data analyzer - a predefined ready-to-run service for
multidimensional, pivot styled ad-hoc analysis for SAP BW Live queries, SAP HANA Live views, SAP Datasphere
models and SAP Analytics Cloud models. SAP BW queries and SAP HANA views can be accessed directly and
no additional model needs to be created. The data can also be displayed in charts.
Feature Description
Table Lets you explore and analyze your data in a pivot styled grid.
Chart Lets you visualize your data in different chart types such as
bar, column and pie charts.
Toolbar Lets you easily navigate to data analyzer actions like export
and variable prompts.
Filter and Variables Lets you narrow the view on your data according to your
filter and variable prompts selections.
Insights Lets you save your explored data as an insight and reuse
your insight in data analyzer. An insight represents the saved
presentation, filter and navigation state of the table or chart.
Share and Export Lets you share insights, schedule insights, create shortcut
links and print your data as Microsoft Excel file, PDF file or
CSV file.
URL API Support Lets you launch data analyzer by parametrizing the URL.
In SAP Analytics Cloud, a model is a representation of large amounts of business data from source systems. It
defines measures and dimensions that are used to build visualizations, filters, and calculations in stories.
Feature Description
Account Model Configuration Lets you create a blank account model or a model based
imported data, which has a single default measure and an
account dimension. It also allows:
Other Model Configurations Let you create a blank model with one or more measures and
an optional account dimension. It also allows:
Live Models Lets you create a model based on data from a remote
source, such as from SAP HANA, SAP S/4 HANA, BW, IBP,
SCT and SAP Universe.
Hierarchies Lets you structure your data. When you display data in sto-
ries in a table, the nodes of the hierarchy can be expanded or
collapsed.
• Level-based hierarchies

Model Security Lets you restrict the model access only to the owner and
other user roles that are explicitly granted access by the
administrator. Models with Currency conversion, Global Di-
mensions, private versions, value driver tree and allocations
cannot be rebuild.
Dimension Security Lets you restrict access to individual values in the model to
specific users.
Version Security Lets you restrict, read, write, and delete access to public
versions, and to prevent other users or teams from changing
them.

Currency Conversion Measures Lets you take source data from one or more currencies and
convert it into one or more target currencies, using rates
from a currency rate table.
Unit Conversion Measures Lets you take source unit data from the Standard Unit Table
and convert it into one or more target units.
Rebuilding a Model Lets you modify models created from acquired data if you
need to fix issues such as missing dimensions or measures.
This option lets you revert the model to the state based on
the first set of acquired data.
Enabling a Model for Translation Lets you translate model metadata, both for live data models
and import data models. Any changes made to the model
will be sent for translation every time the model is saved.
Import and Export Options Lets you schedule data import and export on a recurring
basis. Your model and its data can be exported to text file
format, SAP BPC, SAP IBP, SAP S/4HANA, and BW/4HANA
using OData Services.
Viewing Mapping and Transform History Lets you view data mapping and transform history after
you've imported data into a model or dimension.
Deleting Private Versions Lets you delete all private versions of a specific model.
Recommended Planning Area Lets you limit the data size of a planning model and work
with a small subset of data to enhance planning model per-
formance.
Structure and Data Foundation Views The Structure view shows you the star schema diagram rep-
resenting your model, which helps you to visualize how your
fact data, attributes, and properties all relate to each other.
The Data Foundation view shows you the fact table behind
your data.
This feature lets you clean and transform your raw data before it’s used in charts and tables.
There are many features you can use to prepare your data with SAP Analytics Cloud:

Combine Data Lets you combine data from another source with your ac-
quired data by using up to three matching columns to join
the two sets of data.
Location Dimensions Lets you geo-enrich your data either by specifying location
by region or location by coordinates, so your data can be
displayed in geo maps
Unpivot Transform Lets you transpose columns into rows when preparing data.
The new table format can then be used to either import data
or create a new model.

Details Panel Lets you see data-quality issues that need to be resolved in
your dataset before the data can be fully imported or the
model can be created.
In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can create formulas to perform calculations on values and members of the
account dimensions. You can also use predefined formulas, functions, conditions, and operators to build up a
formula in Modeler.
The following sections highlight the core Formulas and Calculations features available in SAP Analytics Cloud.
2.5.1 Formulas
Feature Description
Exception Aggregation Lets you perform aggregation after calculations are done. By
default, when formulas include aggregated quantities, aggre-
gation is performed before the formula calculations.
Variables Lets you define values that you want to be able to adjust
when you are planning and analyzing data in your models.
In tables and stories, variable values are calculated and dis-
played.
Calculations use formulas to create new measures based on your business data.
Feature Description
Restricted Measures Lets you use only selected values in a measure. You can also
select dimensions that you want to hold constant or fixed.
Restricted measures can be useful for comparing one value
to a set of others in the same chart or table.
Converting Strings to Numbers or Vice Versa Lets you convert a string value to a numeric value or vice
versa, and use the new values in calculated dimensions or
measures.
There are two functions that you can use to convert values
from one type to another in calculated measures or calcu-
lated dimensions:
• ToNumber Function
• ToText Function
Difference From Lets you find the difference in an account's value between
two different dates or time periods.
Date Difference Lets you create a calculation that shows the time interval
between two dates.
Currency Conversions Lets you add a new currency conversion to the Cross Cal-
culations dimension. This feature is supported by planning
models with currency conversion enabled.

Data Locking Tasks Lets you keep track of planning processes, and make sure
that model data is locked at the right time. The data locks
can be set manually by the assignees of the task who have
the appropriate permissions to lock a specific data slice of
the model, or automatically – either using the data locking
permissions of the task owner, or an assignee agrees to set
the data locks automatically with their permissions.
Data Action Tasks Lets you define the start time or schedule a recurrence for
data actions to run automatically.
Multi Action Tasks Lets you define the start time or schedule a recurrence for
multi actions to run automatically.
Processes Lets you see a high-level view of how much work is com-
pleted and how much still needs to be done. A process is an
aggregation of all the events that it contains, these can be
tasks or other processes.
Templates Lets you reuse your calendar processes. You can save them
as calendar templates in the file repository and share them
with other planning process modelers. You can use the tem-
plates to create new processes with the predefined event
structure of a template, or you can use templates to define
the generated event types of leaf members in the calendar
wizard.
Convert Tasks or Processes Lets you adapt your calendar events to your changing needs
while modelling your workflows. You can break down a task
into separate events, or enhance a task with additional
steps. To simplify your workflow, you can convert a process
to a task.
Flexible Start Conditions Calendar events can start at a specific date and time, at
the same start date as their parent process, or when one or
more other calendar events meet a certain status.
Recurrence Calendar tasks that start at a specific date and time can be
set as a series that recurs after a certain number of minutes,
hours, days, weeks, or months. If a series takes place during
a daylight saving time change, it is adjusted accordingly and
takes place one hour earlier or later.
Start and End Dates In addition to the planned start and end dates of calendar
events, you can view the actual dates of the events and see
when an event was started and ended.
Generate Tasks and Processes with Calendar Wizard Lets you quickly generate tasks and processes from an or-
ganizational dimension in the calendar.
Edit Multiple Calendar Events You can select multiple events in the list workspace to re-
move, copy, export, or edit them. A wizard for editing several
events at once guides you through the different options.
Filters Lets you highlight specific calendar events. Filters are ap-
plied in the workspace you’re currently working in. For exam-
ple, if you filter your events in the calendar workspace, the
filter settings won’t affect the list workspace.
Context Lets you add a model and some filters to your task or proc-
ess. When accessing stories or analytic applications from a
calendar task, the same filters will be applied to the story or
the analytic application.
Work Files Lets you add stories, analytic applications, Add-in work-
books, or URLs to your tasks and processes.
Scheduled Publications Lets you view the scheduled publications you created for
distributing PDF copies of a story or an analytic application
using e-mail. Publications can be created in stories and ana-
lytic applications, or from the file repository. In the calendar
you can only view them.
Managing Input Tasks Lets you keep track of your input tasks, view and modify
some aspects of the tasks in the calendar. Input Tasks can
only be created in stories.
Calendar Highlights Lets you show your calendar highlights on the home screen
and quickly see which tasks are overdue and coming due.
Exporting Calendar Tasks Lets you export calendar tasks as ICS files that can be used
in many calendar programs.
Integration with Microsoft Tools Lets you view processes and calendar tasks in Microsoft
Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
API for External Access to Calendar Events Lets you access and interact with your calendar events from
external applications.
Keyboard Command List Lets you work quickly and efficiently in the calendar.
Working with Stories and Analytic Applications Linked to Lets you access stories or analytic applications attached as
Calendar Tasks work files to a task from the calendar or the email notifica-
tions you receive as an assignee or reviewer. A task menu
bar in the story or the analytic application lets assignees
submit their work and reviewers approve it directly in the
story or analytic application.
Calendar Admin Mode Calendar admins can view and edit all calendar events of
your tenant in the calendar admin mode. The calendar ad-
mins can modify the events like the event owners, and act as
assignees and reviewers to process pending events during
their absence, for example.
In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can use multi actions to orchestrate a set of operations across multiple planning

A dataset is a simple collection of data, usually presented in a table. You can use a dataset as the basis for your
story, and as a data source for Smart Predict. Datasets complement models. Datasets are more suitable for
ad-hoc analysis, while models are more suitable for governed-data use cases.

graph and displays the actual target value as a function of

your model is, what the outliers are, and the zone of possible
errors. This feature is applicable to time series forecasting

Lagged Predictors Contribution Lets you identify whether the signal is influenced by the
recent past or far past in the case of an autoregressive com-

Multi-Column Segmentation Lets you create forecasts for segments that combine values

Enabling a Story Lets you enable a story for translation by turning on the
Mark for translation toggle button.
Enabling a Model Lets you translate model metadata, both for live data models
and import data models. Whenever you make a change or
add text in a model, make sure to manually update the trans-
lation to keep your translated content up to date.
Translator Role With appropriate translator and admin rights, you can cre-
ate, read, and delete the translated text for a given story.
Translation Dashboard Lets the user with appropriate rights (translator role or ad-
min role) create, read, and delete translations for a given
story.
You can view the following status for a given story in the
translation dashboard:

Data Access Language Lets you select a language that would become the source
language of a story as the story is being sent for translation.
Import/Export Option Lets you upload and download the translated and the trans-
latable content identified within a story in XLIFF format. At
a given time, you can import multiple XLIFF files per story.

lated) strings.
All Strings Lets you download all the translatable strings for a given
