Stereolithography. An STL file describes a raw, unstructured triangulated surface by the unit
normal and vertices (ordered by the right-hand rule) of the triangles using a three-dimensional
Cartesian coordinate system.
“STL” files are the mesh the describes the 3D shape. The 3D rendering can be opened in a
software
CAD program that allows you to use simple shapes to create designs

Onshape can also be used

Once you have your STL file… go to program PrusaSlicer … tool that takes STL file (mesh) and
slices it into layers
Download program for free onto your computer

STEP 1: Select Printer to be used… (Add/Remove printer if just downloaded software)

Standard Nozzle:

STEP 2: Import STL file

Click and Drag

Right Click

Thickness of layers

Auto determination of supports:

How much of a shape is filled with plastic:

Helps to adhere to base:

To execute:

Drag to see slices

Send file to 3D printer

STEP 3: Loading filament

 Spools stored underneath… need to pay for amount used at MakeHaven store
 Make sure to latch container closed… PLA filament sensitive to moisture so need to
minimize exposure to humidity.

 Ensure the end of filament is in the hole at the side of the reel when not in use so the
filament does not twist… which can cause it to bind when printing.

 Spool Holder

 Rollers

 Ensure tip is cut to an angle using snip tool, to allow it to feed nicely into printer

 Dial knob to select Filament then click center of knob to select

 Select Load Filament

 Select PLA

 Press Continue then push filament into the extruder then it will start to automatically draw
filament into the print head

 It starts to purge last feed to ensure color correct… Note the machine knows when the
filament has run out and will stop to allow you to load a new roll.

STEP 4: Clean Print Bed using Isopropyl Alcohol sprayed onto a paper towel… also can use plastic
scraper if needed
STEP 5: Send G-code file that was exported from Prusa Slicer to printer

User Name: makehaven

Password: makehaven

Occasionally the printer may be offline… click Connect and it will automatically connect:

select file from downloads

Load
Print
STEP 6: Purchase Filament Used

3.88 meters is the amount of filament this print will use

Go to makehaven store to pay

Round up to 4 meters

Also can get amount of filament from Prusa Slicer clicking part and deselecting inches
Automatically does bed lining calibration
Heats up to 215 F or C ???
Prints first line… looking for line that is smooshed into bed that is not too thin that it looks clear
and not too thick that looks like a bead

Adjust if needed by selecting Tune

Trim the knob to raise up or down

STEP 7: Remove 3D Print
 Remove steel print bed by popping it off

 Bend the bed (like popping ice tray) to pop the 3D print off

 Remove debris

 Reattach bed plate

 Remove supports
XL unit feed filament into 1 and 2 slots

Put personal filament magnet if needed

Website for XL

Go to Prusa Slicer and delete objects and discard previous settings to start fresh
Import STL files

Adding a Wipe Tower? helps to make sure extruder primed and ready…. when filament is not at
tip of nozzle because it has to heat up? Typically this is not necessary.
Go to print settings:
Soluble supports not available but can buy on Prusa website

Bed leveling can leave little dots… ensure you wipe the dots of plastic off

If problem with printer adhere red X magnet onto frame so staff can look into the maintenance

Clean up when your done… any stray filaments
