Q6. Find the height of a rock mountain, if on moving 250 meter towards the rock in the horizontal
direction through the base of the rock, the angle of elevation of its top increases from 30 to 60.

Q7. A sonar fitted in a submarine sends ultrasonic waves which reach it again after reflecting from
other submarine in 30 second. What is the distance between two submarines? Speed of sound in water
= 1450 ms-1.

Q8. The distance of a planet from the earth is 1.66 x 10 5 km. If the angular diameter of the planet

Q1. Given that the period T of oscillation of a gas bubble from an explosion under water depends
on P, d and E, where P is the pressure, d is the density of water and E is the total energy of the
explosion. Find dimensionally a relation for T.

Q2. Find the value of 20 joule on a system having 400 g, 15 cm and 15 s as fundamental units.

Q3. If 100 g be the unit of mass, 30 s the unit of time and acceleration due to gravity (980 cm s -2) be
the unit of acceleration, find what will be the new unit of energy?

Q4. If the velocity of light c, the constant of gravitation G and Planck’s constant h, be chosen as
fundamental units find the value of a centimeter in terms of new units of length .
[ c=3x1010 cm/s, G= 6.67x 10-8 dyne cm2 g-2, h= 6.6x10-27 ergs second]

Q5. The velocity v of a particle is given in terms of time t by the equation v = at2 + bt /( 1 +ct), what
are the dimensions of a, b and c.

Q18. Show that the following relations are dimensionally correct.

Where G is gravitational constant, F is the gravitational force, m is the mass of satellite, M is the mass
of the planet, R is the radius of the planet and h is the height of the orbit of the satellite from the
surface of the planet.

Q19. E, m, l and G denote energy, mass, angular momentum and gravitational constant respectively.
Determine the dimensions of El2 / m5 G2.

Q20. A particle undergoing certain periodic motion has four different formulae for the displacement y.
Find out the correct formulae on the dimensional grounds if a= maximum displacement of the particle,
v = speed of the particle, T = time period of motion and t = time at any instant.
(i) y = a sin 4πt/T (ii) y = 2a sin vt/4 (iii) y = sin 2t/a

Q2. The length, breadth and thickness of a block of metal were measured with the help of a vernier
calipers. The measurements are l =(2.000  0.002)cm , b = (1.500  0.003) cm, t= (0.800
0.004) cm.
Find the percentage error in volume of the block.

Q3. A physical quantity Q is given by Q = a 2 b3/5 c / d1/2. The percentage error of measurement in a, b,
c and d are 4%, 15%, 1% and 2% respectively. What is the percentage error in the quantity Q?

Q4. Specific resistance  of a thin circular wire of radius r cm, resistance R ohms and length L is given
by  = r2 R/L. If r = 0.30  0.06 cm, R = 60  1.5 ohm and L = 30.00  0.03 cm, find the
percentage error in  .

Q5. If 25.00 g of a substance occupies 2.5 c.c. Express its density taking the significant figures into
consideration.

Q6. The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is T = 2 (L /g). L is about 10 cm and is known
to 2 mm accuracy. The period of oscillation is about 1 s. The time of 500 oscillations is measured
with a watch of 0.1 s resolution. What is the accuracy in the determination of g?

s-1 and 15.3 cm respectively. If these quantities are measured to the accuracy of 0.4 cm of Hg, 0.02cm,
0.2 cm3 s-1 and 0.3 cm respectively, find the percentage error in the value of .
