Tutorial I Q

This document outlines the tutorial test for the Engineering Mechanics I course at Naypyitaw State Polytechnic University for the academic year 2024-2025. It includes questions on determining resultant forces, tension in cords, and moments about axes, requiring both graphical and analytical methods. The test is scheduled for January 31, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.

NAYPYITAW STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY
Department of Mechanical Engineering
(2024-2025) Academic Year
ME-21015, Engineering Mechanics I
Second Year (All Courses) Tutorial Test I
Date: 31.1.2025 Time: 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Attempt All Questions.
1. (a) Two forces are applied as shown in Fig.1 to a hook. Determine the magnitude and direction of
their resultant using graphical method (the parallelogram law and the triangle rule). (8
marks)
(b) Forces F, P, and Q are given in Fig.2 using a variety of different forms of orientation
information that are commonly encountered.
(i) Write a vector expression for each force.
(ii) Determine magnitude of the resultant of the three forces.
(iii) Determine the direction angles for the resultant. (12 marks)

2. From Fig. 3;
(a) Determine the tension developed in each cord required for equilibrium of the 20-kg lamp.
(7
marks)
(b) Determine the maximum mass of the lamp that the cord system can support so that no single
cord develops a tension exceeding 400 N. (8 marks)

3. (a) A flat rectangular plate is subjected to the forces shown in Fig .4, where all forces are parallel
to the x or y axis. If F = 200N and P = 300 N, determine the resultant moment of all forces
about the z axis and a axis which is parallel to the z axis. And also determine F when the
resultant moment of all forces about the z axis is Mz = -100 N.m and P =300 N. (7
marks)
(b) A structure built in at point O supports 300 and 400 N couples in Fig.5. Determine the
resultant couple moment vector, using both scalar and vector approaches. (8
marks)
