Mini task

“Meeting de Avance”

Experiencing a Miting de Avance allows learners to engage directly with the democratic
process, enhance civic awareness, and foster critical thinking on political and moral issues of our
country. By witnessing firsthand how candidates articulate their platforms, respond to inquiries,
and embody ethical and moral principles, learners can reflect on their beliefs and the complexities
of governance. This engagement empowers them to become informed citizens. It encourages
discussions about political decisions on social justice and community welfare, ultimately shaping
the learner's understanding of personal and collective responsibility in a democratic society.

Context:
For the activity, your role is a candidate running for the position of City Mayor in Baguio;
your task is to communicate and convince the audience (your classmates) that you are the better
choice. Therefore, focus on developing a clear and compelling platform that addresses community
concerns, builds rapport and trust, and effectively communicates your vision through public
speaking engagements and question and answer. Additionally, your groupmates will serve as
your campaign team or campaign associate to help you strategize and reach your audience.

Preparation:
- You will randomly be assigned to a group (7 groups)
• Assign a Leader
• Choose a Candidate that will represent the group
- Come-up with a convincing credentials or resume
- Create a feasible platform.

Procedure:
- The seven candidates will be called in front:
• Provide a brief introduction: credentials, and platform (1min.)
- Interpellation (5 rounds)
• The facilitator will randomize the order of the speaker.
• The facilitator randomly picks current local (Baguio City) topics per round.
• Each candidate will be given a minute to express their thoughts.
• The candidates are allowed to ask the other candidates a question (must
be answerable by agree or disagree); however, note that it will still be part
of the 1 minute.
• The candidate directed with a question must answer with the following:
Agree, Disagree, or abstain; no explanation needed.
• After the 3rd round, candidates will be given a minute to meet with their team.

• After the quick answer on key issues, the audience may ask questions to
whoever candidate they prefer.
▪ The candidates are given 1min. to answer the question
- Closing statement
• Provide a summary of key points (30 sec.)
Election
- Each group will agree on a candidate to vote for; the candidate with the highest vote and
his team will receive a perfect score in the mini-task. The rubric will apply to the non-candidates
and his/her team.
- For tie breaker: A follow-up election will be done by other candidates with low voter
turnout to resolve the tie.

Additional reminder:
1. Five points (+5) will be added to the group with the most creative campaign strategy
2. Schedule:
March 17 – 21 Campaign period
March 24 – 28 Meeting de Avance
3. English, Tagalog, and Ilocano as mode of communication is accepted
4. The candidates are allowed to use a 1/8 sized index card during the Meeting de Avance
