Photoshop CS3 – Photoshopping List

Basic steps for enhancements of most images


 on MAC = CONTROL on PC

1- HAND Tool (H)


- double-click (on toolbar) to resize to Fit-to-Screen ( + zero)

2- CROP Tool (C) - and straighten image, if needs


- CROP

3- ROTATE CANVAS, if needs


-IMAGE Menu  ROTATE CANVAS ( + Y for CW ;  + T for CCW)*

4- HAND Tool (H)


- double-click (on toolbar) to resize AGAIN to Fit-to-Screen ( + zero)

5- AUTO COLOR
- IMAGE menu  ADJUSTMENTS  AUTO COLOR ( + E)*
- EDIT menu  UNDO, if needs ( + Z)
- OR: EDIT menu  Fade Auto Color ( + F)*  set slider as needed

6- If B+W image, change to GRAYSCALE (fast but not best way)


- IMAGE menu  MODE  GRAYSCALE ( + G)*

7- LEVELS
- IMAGE menu  ADJUSTMENTS  LEVELS ( + L)
- AUTOLEVELS
- RESET (option/alt) or UNDO ( + Z), if needs
- OR: EDIT menu  Fade Levels ( + F)*  set slider as needed
- Manually adjust, if AUTOLEVELS not right
- RESET (option/alt) or UNDO ( + Z), if needs
- White Eyedropper, if needs
- UNDO, if needs ( + Z)
8- CURVES, if needs
- IMAGE menu  ADJUSTMENTS  CURVES ( + M)
- RESET (option/alt) or UNDO ( + Z), if needs

9- SHADOWS/HIGHLIGHTS, if needs & while viewing at least at 50%


- IMAGE menu  ADJUSTMENTS  SHADOWS/HIGHLIGHTS ( + H)*
- SHADOWS customized default (A 33%, W 22%, R 22pix), never apply more
- HIGHLIGHTS rarely needed, move only AMOUNT (top) slider to 5% max
- RESET (option/alt) or UNDO ( + Z), if needs

10- CLEAN-UP – while viewing at least at 50%


- RUBBERSTAMP (Clone) Tool (S)
- &/or HEALING (Band-Aid) Tool (J)

11- SAVE AS
- FILE menu  SAVE AS (shift +  + S) - rename the file
- FILE menu  CLOSE ( + W) (Mac: or click red dot at top left of image window)

12- DELETE original (so later can recover original from trash, if needs be)
- highlight thumbnail icon, then press DELETE key (Mac:  + delete)
