MINI HAND MIXER

WITH BATTERY-
POWERED DC
MOTOR
INTRODUCTION
A hand mixer is a small, portable kitchen
appliance used for mixing, beating, and
whipping ingredients. It consists of a
motorized base with rotating beaters or
whisks that help blend various substances
efficiently.
Hand mixers are commonly used in baking for mixing cake
batter, whipping cream, and kneading dough, as well as in
other culinary applications. Hand mixers come in electric
and manually operated versions. Electric hand mixers are
powered by a motor, while manual ones rely on hand-
cranking mechanisms. They are preferred for their
convenience, speed, and ease of use, making them a
staple tool in households and professional kitchens.
In DIY and robotics projects, mini hand mixers
can be built using simple components like a
DC motor, battery, binding wire, and
cardboard. These small-scale mixers help
demonstrate basic electrical and mechanical
principles while serving as a fun and
educational experiment.
PURPOSE

Hand mixers are great for baking because their

versatility allows for mixing, whisking, whipping and
beating all with the same tool. They can gently mix
nuts into batter, cream butter and sugar together for
cookies, or whip up light, fluffy frosting for cupcakes.
Mixers help automate the repetitive tasks of stirring,
whisking or beating. When the beaters are replaced by
a dough hook, a mixer may also be used to knead. A
mixer may be a handheld mechanism known as an
eggbeater, a handheld motorized beater, or a drill
mixer.
PROCEDURE

Step 1: Make the Mixer Body (Cardboard

Case)
1. Cut a rectangular piece of cardboard
and fold it into a box shape to hold the
motor and battery.
2. Leave one side open for inserting the
DC motor.
3. Secure the box using glue gun.
PROCEDURE

Step 2: Attach the DC Motor

1. Insert the DC motor into
the cardboard box so that the
shaft sticks out.
2. Use glue gun to fix the
motor securely inside the box.
PROCEDURE
Step 3: Make the Mixing Blade (Using Binding
Wire)
1. Take a piece of binding wire and bend it into
a small whisk or propeller shape.
2. Make sure the wire is firmly twisted so it
won’t come apart while spinning.
3. Attach the wire whisk to the motor shaft by
twisting it around or using glue gun.
PROCEDURE
Step 4: Connect the El ectri cal Ci rcui t
1. Connect the posi ti ve wi re from the
battery cl i p to the posi ti ve termi nal of the
motor
. 2. Connect the negati ve wi re to the
negati ve termi nal of the motor.
3. (Opti onal ) If usi ng a swi tch, connect i t
between one of the wi res for easy on/off
control .
PROCEDURE

Step 5: Secure Everything

1. Attach the battery pack to the
cardboard body using glue gun.
2. Ensure all wires are properly
connected and secured.
PROCEDURE

Step 6: Test the Mixer

1. Turn on the switch (or directly
connect the battery).
2. The DC motor should start spinning,
and the wire whisk should rotate.
3. Try mixing a small amount of liquid
(e.g., water or light butter).
