WATER RATES, SEWER RATES AND PENALTIES


Beginning June 1, 2016, and every year thereafter, the annual water rates shall be adjusted upwards, if
applicable, by applying to the previous year's rate of inflation, calculated based on the Consumer Price Index -
Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (Chicago All Items) published by the United States Bureau of Labor
Statistics for the 365-day period ending on the most recent January 1. Any such annual increase, however,
shall be capped at 105% of the previous year's rate. The sewer rates are 100% of the water rates. Penalties
accrue at a rate of 1.25% per month on late balances.
GARBAGE FEE
Effective January 1, 2016, properties are subject to the garbage fee. (The garbage fee is charged to all
properties that receive Department of Streets and Sanitation garbage collection service.) The garbage fee is
billed as a line item on your new unified utility bill and reflects the same time period as your water and sewer
charges. The garbage fee is $9.50 per month per dwelling unit. Your first unified utility bill of 2016 includes
catch up billing for the garbage fee dating back to January 2016. You will have the full year to pay the garbage
fee without any penalties.
