LESSON PLAN

TLE – Information and Communication Technology

Grade Level: 10
Lesson Title: Computer Peripherals: Input, Output, and Storage Devices
Time Allotment: 60 minutes

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, 90% of the students are expected to:
1. Identify and describe different types of computer peripherals and their functions;
2. Appreciate the role of computer peripherals in enhancing digital experiences and
demonstrate responsible usage of these devices;
3. Classify and correctly handle various input, output, and storage devices through
hands-on activities.

II. Subject matter

1. TOPIC: Input, Output, and Storage Devices

2. REFERENCE: Quasney, J., et al. “Discovering Computers Fundamentals: Your
Interactive Guide to the Digital World, 8th ed.” Published by: RIPOSITORY
UNIVERSITAS DIAN NUSWANTORO. Retrieve from
https://repository.dinus.ac.id/docs/ajar/Computers_Fundamentals.pdf
3. MATERIALS: PowerPoint, Activity sheets, Computer peripherals (keyboard, mouse,
printer, etc.)

III. Learning procedure:

A. Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Engagement Activity: “Guess the Device”

 The teacher will show pictures of different computer peripheral;

 The teacher will ask students to guess whether the device is for input, output, or
storage.
 Discussion Questions:
1. What do you think are the functions of these devices?
2. Why are these devices important in using a computer?

Transversal Skills Integration:

 Media and Information Literacy –Students analyze information from pictures and
reflect on their impact.
 Critical and Innovative Thinking –Categorizing devices and explaining their
functions.

B. Lesson Proper (20 minutes)

1. Explanation of Computer Peripherals

a. Input Devices: Devices that allow users to enter data into the computer.

 Keyboard – Used for typing letters, numbers, and commands.

 Mouse – Moves the cursor and allows users to click, drag, and scroll.
 Scanner – Converts physical documents into digital format.
 Microphone – Captures sound for recordings or voice chats.
 Webcam – Captures video and images for online meetings.
 Joystick – Controls movement in games and simulations.

b. Output Devices: Devices that display or produce results from the computer.

 Monitor – Displays images, videos, and text.

 Printer – Prints digital documents onto paper.
 Speakers – Produce sound from the computer.
 Projector – Displays the computer’s screen onto a larger surface.
 Headphones – Allow users to listen to audio privately.

c. Storage and Other Peripherals: Devices used for storing or transferring data.
 External Hard Drive – Holds large amounts of data and connects via USB.
 USB Flash Drive – Small, portable storage device for transferring files.
 Memory Card – Used in cameras, phones, and computers for saving files.
 External DVD Drive – Reads and writes DVDs/CDs.
 External SSD – Fast and durable storage device for quick data transfer.

Transversal Skills Integration:

 Critical and Innovative Thinking – Critical Thinking
 Interpersonal Skills – Understanding the role of peripherals in technology use.
C. Group Activity (20 minutes

“Peripheral Matching Challenge”

Students will be divided into small groups, and each group will receive a set of flashcards
containing device names and their corresponding functions. They will work together to
correctly match each device with its appropriate function and category, classifying them as
input, output, or storage devices. After completing the matching task, each group will
present their answers and provide an explanation for their choices, demonstrating their
understanding of the different computer peripherals and their roles.

D. Generalization (5 minutes)

Discussion Questions:
1. Why are input, output, and storage devices important in using a computer?
2. How do these peripherals improve our daily tasks?

E. Application (5 minutes)

For the application activity, students will conduct a "Peripheral Scavenger Hunt." They
will be asked to identify and list all input, output, and storage devices available in their
school’s computer laboratory, classroom, or home. Students must categorize the devices
accordingly and provide a brief explanation of their function. As an extension, students will
write a short reflection on how these peripherals impact their daily computer usage and
how they can maximize their efficiency when using these devices. This task will reinforce
their understanding of the lesson in a practical, real-world context.

IV. Assessment
Performance Task: Group Presentation on Computer Peripherals

Students will work in groups to create a presentation showcasing different input, output,
and storage devices. Each group will choose a specific set of peripherals, explain their
functions, and provide real-world applications. Presentations will be assessed based on
accuracy, creativity, clarity, and teamwork.
