Assignment - Spraying 2nd Sem 2022-2023

The document presents a series of calculations related to sprayer operations, including effective swath boom, required operating speed for increased area, and application rates for different scenarios. It also addresses the calibration of a knapsack sprayer and the time required to change the mixture in a sprayer with multiple nozzles. Additionally, it computes the field capacity of a sprayer based on specific parameters for a cotton plantation.

1.

A sprayer is operating at 6 kph, covering 30 hectares in 6 hours, 20% of the time was spent on headland
turning and tank filling.
a. What is the effective swat boom of the sprayer?
b. If the area is increased to 40 hectares, what should be the operating speed to finish spraying in 6 hours
with 20% time loss?
c. If the boom is 10 meters wide and delivers 25 liters/hour, what is the application rate in li/ha in (a) & (b)?
2. The application rate of certain chemical is recommended at 4 kg/ha. The calibration test of a 16-liter
knapsack sprayer is as follows: Nozzle discharge = 1.2 liters per minute, swath 1.5 m and walking speed = 20
m/min. Determine the total volume of mixture applied per hectare.
3. A sprayer containing 100 liters of mixture operates at a nozzle discharge of 0.2 liters per minute per nozzle.
If the sprayer boom consists of 6 nozzles, what time does the sprayer mixture be changed?
4. A farmer wishes to spray his cotton plantation at a rate of 300 gallons per hectare. Sixteen nozzle, 18 inches
apart will be used. The forward speed of the tractor will be 5 kph. Compute the field capacity of the sprayer
in hectare per hour.
