As the world is changing and technology is evolving, it is becoming more important than ever to

stay ahead of the curve. And in today's age of AI, the most important skill everyone of us should
have is the ability to communicate effectively with the AI Systems.

If you are also one of those people who thinks that ChatGPT is useless and Bard does not give
you correct information, or think that these AI bots are just glorified versions of Google. Just ask
yourself one simple question “Why do you think these big Tech companies are investing billions
of dollars in these tools and competing with one another”. OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Meta,
Amazon, X, JP Morgan, Bloomberg are all competing against one another to bring these Large
Language models to the masses.

The simple answer is because this is such a powerful technology with a lot of potential to
change the landscape of humanity. And they know if they don’t do anything now, they will fall
behind their competitors. And the same is True for Humans as well. If you don’t embrace the
change, someone else will. In the last one year only AI has seen substantial growth, so just
imagine what it will do in the next 5 years.

In this video we will talk about the basics of using AI Systems aka Chatbots and learn about the
Chat GPT Prompting Techniques. If you are someone who has been using ChatGPT already
and think you know how to chat with a chatbot. Then also I’ll highly recommend you to watch
this video because I guarantee that you will learn something you don’t know already. So open
your ChatGPT window and grab a notebook to take a few notes if you want.

So the first thing you need to know about the Prompting is how to craft a Prompt. Because you
can achieve a lot with a simple prompt.There are 9 components of a prompt-
1. Task
2. Context
3. Constraints
4. Examples
5. Persona/Role
6. Scope
7. Audience
8. Tone
9. Format
 1. The first component “Task” is the most important component you give in your prompt.
For example if I say, “how can I grow my Instagram account?", then this prompt only has
a task component in it, which is a mandatory component for a prompt. If I give this
prompt to ChatGPT, it will generate a response but it's a very generic kind of response
and might or might not work for my needs.
2. So if I want to improve this prompt for my requirements, I have to set a context with it
which is the second component of Prompting. So I changed our original prompt to add a
context with it something like “I have an AI related instagram account for the past 3
months but I am not getting a significant audience there, suggest me some ideas to grow
the account”. Now when I give this prompt to ChatGPT, it will give me AI related growth
hacks, like-

3. This looks better, but now add some constraints to improve it further. And this is the
third component of Prompting. So I will say- I have an AI related instagram account, and
now add a constraint- where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming in
the AI world.

“I have an AI related instagram account where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming in
the AI world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a significant
audience there. Suggest me some ideas to grow the account”

So now we have added constraints like “AI Tools” and “AI Trends”. And now give this prompt to
ChatGPT to see the answer. Wow, so now you see how this response is changed after tweaking
the prompt with a few constraints.

4. And it is much better now, but now let’s add some examples here. So I will add in the
prompt what worked for me in the past, so that it can give me some suggestions around
the same lines. So in the same prompt I’ll add that In the past I tried boosting my
posts, and it worked for me to get a few more subscribers but I felt that the reach
dropped significantly after that. Everything else will stay the same in this prompt.

“I have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming in the AI
world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a significant
audience there. In the past I tried boosting my posts, and it worked for me to get a few more
subscribers but I felt that the reach dropped significantly after that. So suggest some ideas
to grow this account”.

So now I give this prompt to ChatGPT and I get the response considering my example
thing as well.

So up to this point we have included the Task + Context + Constraint + Example in our prompt.
And with these 3 additional components added along with a task, see the difference in the
response. So while giving a task is mandatory to get a response, it is important to give at least 2
out of these 3 components, context, constraint and example. And you will see a drastic
difference between the responses from ChatGPT.
Now let's talk about the other components which are not mandatory or important but Nice to
Have components to improve and personalize your prompting.

5. So let's talk about Personna/Role first. So as we have seen ChatGPT has responded to
the Instagram Growth question and gave some useful suggestions. But now imagine if
these suggestions are coming from a reputed digital marketing agency, then it would
include some more practical tips right. So now I’ll assign the ChatGPT a role of a
Reputed DIgital Marketing Agency with significant experience in improving Instagram
growth. So now I’ll change the same prompt and ask ChatGPT to Act as a Reputed
DIgital Marketing Agency with significant experience in improving Instagram
growth. And the rest of the prompt will stay same.

“Act as a Reputed DIgital Marketing Agency with significant experience in improving

Instagram growth. I have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything
new coming in the AI world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not
getting a significant audience there. In the past I tried boosting my posts, and it worked for me to
get a few more subscribers but I felt that the reach dropped significantly after that. So suggest
some ideas to grow this account”

And see how the response has changed now with tips like-

And here you can change the personna as per your need. For example if I am asking youtube
growth hacks then I will assign ChatGPT the role of YouTube Growth Expert or if I am asking
any Tech related question, then I would assign ChatGPT the role of Tech Expert or if I am
looking for suggestions on my job search then I would assign ChatGPT the role of a Recruiter or
Hiring Agency.

6. So now moving on to the next component, Scope. So generally when we ask ChatGPT
any question, it gives us the reply based on a default scope of number of words and
character of output context. But if you want a specific answer like “in 500 words, or 5
bullet points” then you have to specify this explicitly. For example, if I add scope to our
original prompt,asking ChatGPT to give 5 best growth hacks.

growth. I have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming
in the AI world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a

ideas to grow this account”.

See how it gives a very specific response now.

This component is useful especially when you are filling any application or writing a letter
where you have a limited space to fill.
 7. Now moving on to the next component “Audience”. So for instances where you want to
cater to a specific group of people with response to your question, then you can provide
the audience component. So for example if I change our prompt to add an audience to it
and say that Most of my audience is based in the US, India and Canada and falls in
the age bracket of 15-25.

“Act as a Reputed DIgital Marketing Agency with significant experience in improving Instagram
growth. I have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming
in the AI world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a
significant audience there. In the past I tried boosting my posts, and it worked for me to get a few
more subscribers but I felt that the reach dropped significantly after that. Most of my audience is
based in the US, India and Canada and falls in the age bracket of 15-25.

And now see the response. Now the answers are very specific for this audience.

8. Moving on, the next component we have is “Tone”. So if you want to have your answers
in a certain tone of a person or style like- Professional or Casual or witty you can add
this component to your prompt. So if I change the same prompt and ask ChatGPT to
provide ideas to grow an instagram account in a professional tone. I get this response.

“Act as a Reputed DIgital Marketing Agency with significant experience in improving Instagram growth. I
have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming in the AI world. I
have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a significant presence there. In
the past I tried boosting my posts, and it worked for me to get a few more subscribers but I felt that the
reach dropped significantly after that. Most of my audience is based in the US, India and Canada and falls
in the age bracket of 15-25. Suggest 5 best ideas to grow this instagram account in a professional
tone.”

Do you see the difference between the tone in the response. If not I would suggest pausing the
video and compare this response with previous responses.

Maybe this component is not very useful in the context of this example, but it is extremely useful
when you are writing an email or letter for official purposes. Or if you are writing memes and
creating comedy videos and want a witty tone for your audience.

9. And then finally the last component is “Format”. So suppose if I am asking some tips and
tricks from ChatGPT and it is giving responses in a paragraph, it won’t be that appealing
or useful as I might not get the step by step tips. That’s where formatting comes into
picture. You ask ChatGPT to give you a response in bullet points or tabular format or
even code block, You can also markdown and highlight the text. For example if I add the
formatting in our prompt and ask ChatGPT to Write the response in Bullet points and
highlight the most useful information. Now see the response.

growth. I have an AI related instagram where I talk about new AI tools and anything new coming
in the AI world. I have been running this account for the past 3 months but I am not getting a

grow this instagram account in a professional tone. Write the response in Bullet points and
highlight the most useful information”.

You see how just adding some useful components can completely change the response from
ChatGPT. So now whenever you hear someone complaining that ChatGPT is not giving correct
information, tell them to watch this video and learn to prompt it in the right way. And by saying
this I am in no way saying that ChatGPT is always right. Well ideally No One is always right.
ChatGPT is also made by humans, so it is also prone to make errors that humans make as it is
fed with human generated data only. ChatGPT itself has some constraints, like Hallucinations
and time limitations. And if you are using the Free Version of ChatGPT it is fed with the data up
to a specific date only and it won’t provide real time updates. But apart from these boundary
conditions there are many ways you can use ChatGPT to increase your productivity. Although in
this video I have specifically talked about ChatGPT, the prompting techniques are more or less
the same with every chatbot.
