CISCE GAMES & SPORTS 2025
INTRODUCTION
Games and sports are a vital part of providing a comprehensive schooling experience. It fosters
holistic development and plays an integral role in enriching a child’s learning process by
promoting not just physical well-being but also mental resilience and values of discipline,
teamwork and leadership.
Over the years, successive policy reforms have reiterated the importance of sports in shaping
young minds. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 mandates the integration of sports and
physical activities as a core component of education. It advocates for a multidisciplinary learning
model that encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities, including sports, as
part of a well-rounded educational experience. Additionally, the National Curriculum Framework
(NCF) underscores the role of physical education as part of the curriculum to ensure that
students receive a comprehensive education that nurtures both intellect and physical fitness.
Committed to nurturing skilled and dynamic individuals, the Council for the Indian School
Certificate Examinations (CISCE) places equal emphasis on academics, sports, and co-
curricular activities, recognising that education extends beyond the classroom. In alignment with
this philosophy, CISCE Games & Sports was initiated as an annual sporting event to identify and
nurture young talent at the school level. The initiative is aimed at providing a platform for students
from CISCE-affiliated schools to showcase and develop their athletic skills in pursuit of gaining
access to compete at higher levels of sporting events. By doing so, CISCE actively supports the
Government of India’s efforts to promote sports culture through initiatives such as the Khelo
India School Games and the Khelo India Youth Games, which focus on identifying and training
young sporting talent nationwide.
CISCE Games & Sports aims to encourage participation as well as provide promising athletes with
opportunities to compete at state, national, and international levels. By facilitating structured
sporting competitions, CISCE ensures that students receive the right exposure and
encouragement to pursue excellence in various disciplines.
To ensure the fair and systematic conduct of sporting events under CISCE Games & Sports,
CISCE has developed a comprehensive set of rules and regulations titled “Games and Sports
Manual”. The current manual forms a directive to the conduct of CISCE Games & Sports and has
been meticulously structured, incorporating the standards set by the School Games Federation
of India (SGFI) and the Khelo India Youth Games while also being adapted to accommodate
regional variations where the events are hosted. It is meant to serve as a reference for officials,
coaches, and organisers, ensuring that all competitions are conducted with integrity, fairness,
and professionalism. The following pages outline the aims, objectives and other extensive details
regarding the conduct of CISCE Games & Sports.
