Adoration 6th May, 2017

Theme: Growing in Love

During this hour of adoration, we want to look at our deepest desire and to what we
value most in our life: our need for other people, our need for the community. In our
life we see that we need to build a relationship with God, and that God himself wants
to relate to us. In our journey of discovering our vocation today, we reach a
fundamental step: we learn that we need God in our daily life.
The Visit or the hour of adoration offers this opportunity to be with the Master who
loves us.

What is the visit or hour of adoration?

It is the meeting of our soul and of all out being with Jesus
It is the creature meeting his Creator
the disciple before the Divine Master
the patient with the Doctor of souls
the poor one appealing to the Rich One
the thirsty one drinking at the Font
the weak one presenting herself to the Almighty
the tempted one seeking a sure Refuge
the blind one searching for the Light
the friend who goes to the True Friend
the lost sheep sought by the divine Shepherd
the heart led astray who finds the Way
the foolish one who finds the Spouse of the soul
the nothing who finds the All
the afflicted who finds the Consoler
the youth who finds life’s meaning

Scripture Reading (Jn. 14:23-24)

Many, many years ago there was a monk, a person who lives by himself and who was
well known for the many sacrifices and the life of prayer he was living. One day, he
prayed to God and said, “There is nothing, Lord, that I am not able to do out of
devotion for you. Send me any trial or affliction, and you will see that I will be able to
endure it.” A voice came from God and said, “Take a bowl, fill it with oil to the brim,
and place it on your head. Go through the market place, cross the city streets and
come back. Let not a single drop of oil be lost!”
The monk filled the bowl with oil, placed it on his head, and, keeping his balance,
started on his way, repeating at every step, “Let not a single drop of oil be lost!” He
came back and, satisfied with himself, placed the bowl on the altar convinced that he
had merited God’s favour. He called God to witness his victory. He prayed, cried, and
begged God for an answer, but no answer came. The next day, it was the same no
answer came, and our monk despaired, he gave up. Holding his head in his hands, he
cried bitterly, and repeated himself. Still not a drop, not even a single drop, of oil was
lost.
Then the voice of God was heard, “What do I care for your oil? How many times,
while you were carrying this oil on your head, did you think of me? The monk did not
know what to answer because he knew too well that he had been thinking all the
time of his oil and of the drop that was not to be lost. And God told him, “It would
have been better for you to drop the bowl, while thinking of me with love even only
once. Now it is more important that you learn how to love your God with all your
heart, and to know that God cares for you and loves you.”

God created us persons because he wanted to be with us, and to live among us. The
most important and the most astonishing revelation of all was that God is a person
who cares.
He is a God who loves his people.
He is a God with whom a relationship is possible.
He invites us to make friendship with him, to make him our travelling companion. He
is our companion in our vocation journey.
As God wants to be with us, we too, have a longing to be with him that is why we are
here. To love is to share my life with others, those who live with me. Only love can
make me open towards everyone and towards God too. It will make us free from all
fears and doubts, and free to accept ourselves and others in our life. For a loving
person, is the one who accepts and love herself, others and God. Above all, we are
invited to be close to God always and when you do that, we will be able to relate
with people in love, peace and joy.
The questions are:
When did I ever experience the presence of God in my life? What were my feelings?
What am I doing in my daily life so as to be always living with God and loving him
through?
