Grade 7 Week 23 - Light - Answers

The document is a Grade 7 assessment on the topic of light, including questions and a scoring system. It features a 3D model demonstration of the law of reflection and includes a Think-Pair-Share activity to engage students in discussing how light enables vision. The document outlines the process of light emission, reflection or refraction, and how the eye and brain work together to perceive images.

3D Model
Write down a description of the law you see in the model and share it with your teacher.
Click to play there is only one model. The model is a demo of the law of reflection, elicit
answers from the students and correct them where needed.
Think-Pair-Share
Think: How does light help us see objects?
Pair: Discuss with your partner how our eyes use light to see things.
Share: Share one important idea about how light helps us see with the
whole class.
The process by which light enables us to see objects involves a complex
interplay between the eye, the brain, and the characteristics of light itself.
Here's a simplified explanation:

1. **Emission of Light:** Light can be emitted from various sources, such as

the sun, light bulbs, or other illuminated objects.

2. **Reflection or Refraction:** When light encounters an object, it can

undergo reflection (bouncing off the surface) or refraction (bending as it
passes through a medium). The interaction between light and the object
determines how it behaves.

3. **Entering the Eye:** Light from the object enters the eye through the
cornea, the transparent front part of the eye.

4. **Focusing:** The lens inside the eye focuses the incoming light onto the
retina at the back of the eye. The cornea and lens work together to ensure
the image is clear.

5. **Image Formation:** The retina contains light-sensitive cells called

photoreceptors (rods and cones). These cells convert the focused light into
electrical signals.

6. **Transmission of Signals:** The optic nerve carries these electrical

signals from the retina to the brain.

7. **Processing in the Brain:** The brain processes the signals received from
the eyes and constructs an image. It interprets factors like color, shape, and
distance to form a coherent visual perception.
