Good Grief! Two beloved church members go home to be with the Lord. A 19 year old friend of our family is involved in a horrible (and near fatal) car accident. A church members mothers pastor in Oklahoma is run over by a car while riding his bike. Three elderly people are murdered in a senseless home invasion in Baton Rouge. 39 people die as a result of tornadoes in Americas heartland. One of them is a toddler who is found in a field 10 miles away from home. These are just a few of the headlines both personal and national that people in our church have been dealing with in the last week or so. So much tragedy, and so much grief. How do we deal with it all? I am reminded of Pauls words found in I Thessalonians 4:13, where he says, Brothers

and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
Our church choir brought us a beautiful message in song last Sunday morning about what happens when we leave this world in death. We, as Christians, know that the instant we leave this world we are immediately transported to the presence of God in Heaven. This is the hope of which Paul was speaking! So, even though we grieve over the loss of loved ones, we have the ability to grieve with hope of an eternal future. Thats what I would call good grief! Annie Armstrong Please remember that we will have our annual Annie Armstrong North American Missions Offering Ingathering this coming Sunday morning during the worship service. As has been our recent custom, we will actually pass the plates twice in that service. One will be for our normal budget offering, while the other will be specifically for the missions offering. There will be special Annie Armstrong envelopes available in the pews Sunday. As always, we ask that all of us consider what God would have each of us do to help in the ministry of reaching the North American continent with the hope of the Gospel. Thousands of missionaries who represent us depend on these offerings to fund their ministries.

If asked to define who Jesus is to you, what would you say? Is He that special baby that was born over 2000 years ago, or is He more than that to you? Is He the unique person who lived so long ago who was 100% God and 100% man, or is He more than that to you? Bible study lessons this month come from the book of Luke. They define Jesus. However, the only definition that counts is the one that reflects His life in yours. If, to you, He is just that baby, He really does not have a very active role in your everyday living. Do you rejoice over His coming? If, to you, He is the God-man, how does He show Himself in your day to day activities? Do you try to follow His example in the way you handle situations? Can others see Him through you? Does your life praise Him? Do you honor Him as the Messiah? Have you allowed Him to be your boss, or do you still feel you must be in charge of your life? Do you seek His way and His will when you have decisions to make? Do you talk to Him regularly, or does He just hear from you in times of trouble? Do you call on His name, or do you use His name inappropriately? Luke shares great insight into Jesus and the role He wants to have in our lives. This month, read this great book in the New Testament - this gospel. Attend your Sunday School class and dig deeper into Lukes message. Get to know Jesus even better. Give Him the place He wants in your life. See you in Sunday School, Theresa
